Doom@Marathon: E1M1-Hangar
Hi, Marathoners!
Hope you enjoy this replica of the first level in Doom1.
Those of you who play Doom will probably find this Map fun, like driving into town in a different car. Those of you who aren't that acquainted with Doom will probably find this Map fun anyway, because the original level is pretty well-designed to begin with.
THE MAP
This very simple and compact map is modeled after E1M1:HANGAR in Doom1. The second room, however is completely empty. I didn't bother to decorate it, becauseI felt that the original room in Doom is sort of frustrating with a big wall in the middle.
If you're using the Doom music (that can be found at ftp.amug.org, the author of which I do not know, and is NOT the music file created by Meta), this map will play the E1M1 music in Doom, which can hype you up some.
To use, like all other map files, rename the file "Map.E1M1" to "Map" and place it in your Marathon folder.
SECRETS
All three secrets in the original level are in this map, but I changed the ways two of them open. I figured that most people wouldn't want to seach for secrets in homemade maps unless they were pretty obvious! If you've applied my terminal patch, you will need to cover all three secrets to finish the level.
MONSTERS
Green, red, and purple fighters replace former humans, and blue fighters replace imps.
The trooper outside is a pseudo-net-player. He respawns four times, also adding the feeling of a pseudo-net-player. It is not necessary to kill the trooper to end the level, even if you've applied the terminal patch.
If you're using my Doom Physics Model, the shooting aliens leave some ammo behind.
OTHER FILES
The terminal patch "Patch.E1M1" creates an application file named "Doom@Marathon v1.2". Then the terminal tells you some things about the map to let you enjoy it more. Double click it to create the application.
"Physics Model.E1M1" is my feeling of what Doom movements are like. Only the running movements have been tuned, but I think the walking movements have been modified, maybe by "looking". The projectile aliens drop ammo. This helps in the harder difficulties. Change the name of the file to "Physics Model" and place it in your Marathon folder.
...Have fun!
