I turned Final Fantasy in to a shmup/bullet hell game. Spent well over a year doing this.

2p co-op
automatic joystick support (designed with xbox 360 controller in mind)
in depth scoring system (few different ways to score big!)
level select
OC Remix music.

quick ref of p1 keyboard:
arrows: move
A/S keys - shoot left/Right
Z/X keys - Focus left/Right
space - summon (classic bomb in shmups)
ENTER - pause, skip cutscenes, make selections
ESC - Exit game
F4 - change to window mode

Special mode - press A/S at same time to enter special mode.
double attack power, creates suicide bullets
