This game is just stunning its visuals. First few minutes that i played this game i was utterly impressed. This game may have a tiny things that are similar to minecraft ,but has excesscive things that minecraft doesnt have. Man i just got to give thanks to the developer for making this game he is a indie developer 0_0. This game provides a astonishing package for you to enjoy and i promise you that it is worth your money.
From 80 mobs ,and floating islands ,dungeons vehicles over 12 weapons and more :0 WTF! this game just has it all ,and the most impressed thing that i just have to bring up is its rpg system. Yes you can do quests in this game... This game will keep me entertained for a long time.
I recommend this game to every1.
Best game i ever lplayed. I loved Minecraft until i found this. whats not to like about it, good graphics, runs smoothly, Tons of mobs, vehicles, quests, leveling and BUILDING/crafting. Best game ever, I mean just the graphics. Congratulations Paul, you made an excellent game. 10 out of 10.
Thank you, Highly ToxixToxic
This game has SO much potential it's insane. I fell in love with it first day. Yes, with all games its no perfect and there are bugs and glitches here and there. However I stand by my rating based off of the over all design of the game, along with keeping in mind, all of the multiple future improvements that will happen as well.
I do not see how someone can spend so much time making a game that's 100% inspired by Minecraft, or more likely, the lack of adventuring/RPGing in Minecraft.
This game clearly tries to fill that role Minecraft neglected, yet it doesn't make it any better. Leveling system is - to be frank - akin to that of Minecrafts, quite boring and lackluster (basically you just get +1 damage, +0.05 movement speed, +0.1 digging speed etc.).
I could kind of let that slip if the game made any progress on the combat aspect of these voxel based games but nay, the combat is exactly the same as it is in Minecraft. You point and you click, that's how you attack. If you let the enemy get close to you, they attack you. No (active) blocking, dodging, parrying, nothing.
I could go on and on about how horrible this game is but I don't want to upset anyone any more than I already do.
So, to sum it up:
If you make a voxel based game ("Minecraft clone" if you will), try to make it different and better in some aspects - not the other way around.
Don't just make an inferior clone and slap lousy RPG elements on it and be done with it. Like, I can see a lot of effort was put in to this game but it doesn't seem like the creator actually had any love for it..it just feels like it was made to milk money in the shadow of Minecrafts success.
People will inevitably look at this and compare it to Minecraft. Is it Minecraft? No.
Block Story has committed itself to its features. That might sound strange, so to give an example:
Minecraft has crafting, spells, and experience; so does Block Story. With Minecraft, you have to either look on the net for crafting recipes or experiment to discover them. Block Story has a recipe book built-in, so you know exactly what you need in order to make something.
Minecraft has spells that are completely random and unknowable, without use of a mod; Block Story has magic items you create, just like any other crafting tool. To be fair, at the time of this review Block Story does not have a "magic system" of the sort that Minecraft has. If this changes in the future, I would expect that Block Story's system would be reproducible and consistent, unlike Minecraft's random approach.
Both games have Experience Points. In Minecraft, they're used to power the random magic system. In Block Story, they're used to customise your character, allowing you to explicitly focus on those elements of gameplay that you find fun/interesting.
Yes, the block physics in Block Story are missing things like gravity, and water doesn't flow. But then again, you've got an unlimited height and depth, you've got skylands, and the ability to create coloured lights, coloured glass, and coloured snow.
Comparing Minecraft and Block Story is comparing apples and oranges. As a general game player, I hesitate to make the comparison. As a player of Minecraft since beta 1.5 though, I know that Block Story gives me the fun and open sandbox game that initially attracted me to Minecraft.
Do I think Block Story is better? It all depends on what you're looking for. I find I prefer the way that Block Story is developing, compared to how Minecraft has developed. Download the demo and try it out. Yes, it's rougher than Minecraft. But give Block Story a chance and you might be pleasantly surprised.
Idiots won't read that it's not really a "rip-off" and that every game is a "rip-off" of a progenitor, and graphic-whores will say that it needs to be polished, but for a game that is playable not just on the PC, and just came to the PC, this is fine. All games go through trials, and some companies need to make money before they can polish things that aren't truly needed to make a game fun and exiting. I like it. I don't want to or need to have to install mods to get the same experience, so it's nice to have it all in one package. Instead of just saying "rip off." Or some other few meaningless words, why not type out something that the developers can actually relate to and fix upon?
