Bik is a retro adventure game that pays tribute to classic point-and-click adventure games such as King’s Quest, Space Quest, Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, Full Throttle, The Dig, The Longest Journey, and the list goes on.Bik not only replicates the classic adventure game look and feel with its retro pixel-art graphics—it also sneaks in a healthy dose of modern game engine technology.
Things to do in Bik:
Very recently we decided to support the new OUYA gaming console, and along with it comes full controller support! Supporting a controller in a point and click adventure game is a big challenge. The interface for a point and click adventure game is built to allow quick mouse movements to select various objects to interact with. A joystick is inherently slower and less accurate moving around the screen which could make playing an adventure game a bit burdensome.
Instead of simply making the joystick move the mouse cursor, we have decided to allow directional control of the character with the left analogue stick. This allows the player to move the character as they would in any action adventure game (think Zelda). In order to interact with objects on the screen, the player can cycle through all visible objects using the d-pad or shoulder buttons and use the face buttons to select specific actions (walk, talk, touch, look).
The right stick will still move a cursor around the screen if the player wants to replicate the point and click interface.
Right joystick - moves the cursor around the screen (can swap with left joystick)
Left joystick - directly controls the character movement (can swap with right joystick)
Face buttons - each button is assigned to one of the action buttons (walk, touch, talk, look)
D-pad (or shoulder buttons) right and left - cycles through interactive objects currently visible on screen
D-pad (or shoulder buttons) up and down - cycles through inventory items
On another note:
Our Kickstarter campaign is nearing the end and we still need your support! Please help us spread the word!
