What is Ascent?
Ascent is a 2D puzzler, set in an old mine. The goal is to ascend yourself, a robot, through this mine to the surface. But you soon find out that this is a mine that is like no other...
What is the gameplay like?
The gameplay will be set in a 2D environment, where you control the player by placing arrows for you to turn at, and attempt to ascend through this mine. To describe it, you could say it is like Chu Chu Rocket, but with a morbid Dead Space environment.
The main game will consist of a long series of increasingly intricate and difficult puzzles, as well as many hard bonus puzzles.
There will also be a survival mode, where you have to save players and fend off enemies, as well as a multiplayer survival mode, where you competitively steal all the survivors and drive enemies into other players.
Where will I be able to get this game?
At this time, we have no fully working builds, but when we do, we plan to release a small demo of what is to come. We also plan to release Ascent on Desura.
Our first release on Desura will be released shortly after the demo. We have yet to set a price on this full version.
Is this related to Minecraft or Portal at all?
No. The games are completely separate. Minecraft/some Portal mod profiles on ModDB run by this game's developer are not related to Ascent in any way. we add this as there may be confusion, as the lead developer runs several ModDB profiles.

Ascent is a game based in a mine. The main character is a robot, and the only way you can control him is by placing arrows at his feet, leading him through the mine. to put it into perspective, this is like Chu Chu Rocket meets Dead Space environments.
The development of this game is coming along good in areas, and not so much in others.
As of now, much of the core gameplay has been planned, and 20 of the 100 main levels are completely mapped out. However, most of the code is not done, due to other paid projects occupying our coder.
The final result we want is a highly mod-able game, with 100+ levels in a story mode, custom campaign support, custom texture support, randomly generated campaigns and levels and more.
We're hoping to get this on many platforms after windows release, such as iPad, mac and android support.

How will you be able to pay for this game? I'm asking because, for one, I have a bank account but not a credit card and I don't want to be stuck out and resort to piracy.

but, if you pirate, I'd understand. like VALVe said, piracy is usually just because it's a better service :P
though, I'd hope no-one would, but I know it's inevitable.

nope. not at all. we're exploring many options to create this game. things will be pretty slow until we get the first working version of this.
we're thinking of using some form of google webkit thing. once we have a working version, we'll release a small alpha on here, then work on the main thing. maybe even get it on Desura.
