I know I said this game was postponed for a while but eventually after the director and I talked about it and we decided it was finally time to pull the plug for good or dare I quote a term from our former PR manager "let the old beast die". Alas, a proper post-mortem can't go without it's backstory right?

Army Men Extended was supposed to start off as a fun and enjoyable singleplayer mod I'd make for Freedom Force as a tribute to the Army Men series when 3DO filed for Chapter 11 in 2004. I really wanted to keep the spirit of Army Men alive even if its just through a short singleplayer adventure.

After I've suffered through hard drive failures four times in my life (and researched many games to find what will work best for AMX), and a failure with running a team for the first time, I was about ready to give up. Story writer then later came along offered a story plot that was not only great but it actually gave me a chance to start fresh again with a new slate and for a while, things were actually doing well for a change.

As soon as our PR manager came in that's when things begun to go south. They did not see eye-to-eye and tensions risen, being the newbie I was to game dev, I struggled to keep the team together, then again, I'm never was cut out for leadership. Naturally, I'm a lone-wolf so people were just not something I could handle very well. I only took the leap of faith because I felt I had no choice if I wanted my project to get anywhere.

The second team I had finally collapsed and dev-wise, I was once again on my own, but of all who once worked with me, only the story director remained. In the end, it was him who was loyal with me and managed to hold on for 7 full years. He was never the best to work with and I already was aware of it day 1 since like myself, he too was a newcomer to game dev, only difference is at least I had a fair amount of mod dev experience to guide me, but even so, I was nearly as clueless in the indie scene as he was and that's why I defended him more against the team's wishes where they never even trusted him. I wish I had the backbone and just stomped my feet and reminded them of the project, maybe then AMX would have completed entirely by now and perhaps even The Mean Greens would not have been able to taken the lead.

Funny enough it was when I finally decided to go solo that Army Men III finally managed to get somewhere and it did last long enough for a Beta release on the series' 15th Anniversary no less. For the first time, I truly felt like our game has gotten somewhere and it actually did to an extent. I managed to prove wrong most of the other indie devs who doubted me and tried to convince me to kill the project and work on my own IP instead. In the end, only my story writer trusted me the most where most did not even cared to understand the backstory behind my personal attachment to the project.

I am no where near innocent in all this. I was too weak, naive, and cautious to take proper action that could have saved the life of this project and surpass it's goal. I missed my key chance to make a mark in the gaming industry through a fan-game.

In the end, I've ultimately failed. Within the last few years, along with other life factors, I witnessed my health begin to decline and ironically my own project contributed to it. This year, I finally realized it was already too late yet I still wanted to hold on to faith and postpone the game instead and work on a new project of my own IP and see how well that goes before giving Army Men Extended and more specifically, Army Men III another go.

Unfortunately now I know its no longer possible at this point. I often hated being right on certain things and this is one of them.

Army Men III is truly dead...

The website and this page as well as all of it's social media will stay up for a year before I archive them.

I have realized everything from Army Men Extended is not entirely a lost cause. I still intend to carry on the plan with Army Men Online as that will give me a fresh new slate and another chance to redeem myself. I've even created a new GDD for it which has a scope that might even blow TMG out of the ocean, but that time will not come at least until 2018-2019.

If you guys wish to untrack this game, now is the time to do so.

Meanwhile, my sole focus right now is our own IP.

Well, ****. Maybe when you get enough time on your hands you can do this as a side project or something, would never ever want you to give up hope on this project. It would be a disgrace to say the least. Those assets could be used for something at some point. But money makes the world go around. I'm sorry to see your team break up. Leadership is an important trait in making something happen with a group.

Good Luck on you other endeavors.

We had nothing to do with the sales on GoG.com, that was entirely from 2K's end. GoG basically asked them to get the old games on their platforms and they didn't mind.

I just wished they added Air Tactics, World War, and Sarge's Heroes on their as well.

Army Men was a huge part of my childhood. Now I am an adult, and this reminded me of why I loved the series so much. It delighted me to know that others loved it as much as I did and was sad to see it end, now it doesn't have to, thanks to you and your hard work. I love every aspect of how you have created an Army Men game, you have done it right where so many others could have failed. It stays true to the series in every respect, the levels, the weapons, the enemies, the animations, the music (which I love), and the slightly cheesy but likable and fun atmosphere. You brought the child out in me with this game, and I thank you so much for doing so. I look forward to seeing further development and wish you the best of luck. Thanks for making me feel like a kid again.

A fan of a massively underrated game series.

I haven't seen any footage except from the old beta, so I don't know how much progress You've made so far, but I could help with little things, such as the sprint animation. For example: You start running. Ordinarily, one leans forward a bit (You got the sprinting itself right), then when stamina runs out or the player lets go of the key or whatever is used for movement input, You return to normal posture (depending on whether the player is still moving or stops input all together), but not all at once. Same for speed. It's all about the speed of the transition. The speed should gradually return to normal instead of going from 100 to 50 in a split second. It's hard to explain. A quick (but not instantaneous) transition from normal to sprinting posture makes sense, but what about the stop? When You stop sprinting, it will more than likely be a slower transition than when You start the sprinting process. An attempt at a sudden speed change like that in real life will send one tumbling, especially with all that equipment. What is the ideal rate at which the speed should decrease after the sprinting is done? How do we keep the player from going too far when they just want to stop from a full sprint or movement period in order to avoid falling to their death or into the view of enemies just around the corner? Rates are key here. Laws of motion are a tricky thing to emulate realistically. The transition animations are missing, too. That's just the tip of my "sprinting iceberg" but this could all be the blathering of a 20 year old with no life or prior experience (me) :P. I just want to see that this game is the best it can be and bring joy and nostalgia to all of the adults like me who played this stuff as a kid and have the kids who play it curious about what we had then. Maybe they'll grab an emulator and play some sh2 or rts (my top 2 over all). I want to bring the Army Men name back from the grave. Sorry for the WOT and possible redundancies, typos, and nonsense. Tl;dr Ik ik.

Nonsense! Constructive feedback on our game is always welcome.

Matter of fact, your idea on sprinting will actually work well into AMO. Funny enough, we were actually planning to add a sprint-stop animation later in the dev cycle for better transitioniting, something I liked from Sarge's Heroes.

For all intents and purposes it is still dead anyhow, or "postponed indefinitely" as the video blog puts it. So no not really that much of an "April Fools."

Actually it still is an AF joke. Its not truly dead, postponed means "in delay or limbo". Else, I'd just scrap the project and delete all its content.

We want to make sure we have an IP of our own to leverage with acquiring the IP to AM series to ensure the game's success and future. Eventually we will still resume work on the game regardless, but I just hope we don't have to struggle with publicity should the IP acquisition approach fails or something else comes up, because we need it or permission from Take-Two to get the game on Steam.

This is probably the most effort driven indie game I have ever seen and played. Yes, this game has a bug here and there but that can surely be fixed. The fact that this game haas been a success is mainly through himself and the commuity. The game play of this game is great and in my opinion I would like the music to be a little softer but thats what I think. People can say that this is a bad game but as long as this is effort driven I will always vote game of the year and game of everything. I love…
