Here is a small wooden outlook, the question is, should this be built into walls or not?
This small outlook would be great to have behind a Palisade to give a place for archers to go, it is not very tall though, a few feet taller than the palisade, but it is one of the quickest and easiest towers to build though only requiring wood and a few nails.
This would be great for a passive* defence for a small village to have in it's centre if it is too poor for a wall.
Also note you could fit a small siege engine on this (A small Balista for example) but that would leave little room for archers (as little space to move without obstructing the engine.
*Passive being able to hire a few watcher NPC's to look over the area.
Here is the standalone version of the tower.
i think maybe both
wall: an armored version
stand alone: for an outpost though i think of maybe having an option for a leather roof at least (like age of empires 2 outpost).
Yes, but this is just the basic one you get when you build it, you can add that after building it.
Also note you could fit a small siege engine on this (A small Balista for example)
wow that would improve its defence capabilities considerably
but that would leave little room for archers (as little space to move without obstructing the engine.) All part of the art of compromising, say you have one tower for a small village of around 3-4 houses, a shop or 2 etc.. would you like a tower fitted with 1 balista and a carrying capacity of 4 (the number for the crew of the engine is already taken into account around 2 people) men.
Or have a tower that can house 10 people?
Sweet.
nice. i can just imagine sneaking up in the dead of night, and a lonely watchman looks out, gets shot in the head, and slouches down
Yes, leaving the Village exposed to a Raid.
Great... now I'm going to be incredibly paranoid, and triple up on watch towers....
Yep, you could also construct railings for it and perhaps a Rawhide roof if you want.
2 Questions for you:
#1: Will Greek fire be included?
#2: What of the Porcupine defensive emplacement?
Yes you will get fire pots, if the Porcupine is a formation than it would be upto the player to make.

You meant this right?
No. It's a sort-of ballista that is basically an arrow shotgun.
I don't know the specifics of construction, but i know that they could fire 300 (regular sized) arrows at once... It was also the size of a drawbridge... I'll try to get you more info tonight.
Oh that, it goes behind a Portcullis, absolutely lethal to unarmoured commoners pushing a Ram
Exactly! but, knowing me, i would have them in more places than just behind the portcullis, if you know what i mean... ;)
You also got to reload it, which will take a while, could you reload it when Mailed knights (Note very few plate armour around) charge you, lances proned.
Calvary, meet spear... (Note in my opinion, the spear is the best melee weapon. also, spears are good verses calvary...)
my favorite melee would be a one handed (reasonabley long) sword and a good kite shield
A good Godendag will suite me, with perhaps a shortsword and roundshield and a throwing weapon.
Other than that, I'm a fan of the Battleaxe and kite shield. The great-axe is nice too.

Most of those yes. The axe was incorrect though... That was a hatchet or something... I was thinking something more along the lines of: Google.ca
I just picked a random picture of a battle axe.
Thats Fantasy ;)
Those where examples of 12th century weaponry
... whoops... I was thinking of the 16th century battle axe... I feel exceptionally dumb now...
godendag means good day in flemish.
:D lol
