Who is authing these mods? Thread

Aight, this is a thread complaining about the mods that are being authed.

Moddb.com <-- No website, that is against the rules
Moddb.com <-- Very little info, website that also contains hardly any info (and it has white text on a white backround)
Moddb.com <-- This doesn't need an explanation.
Moddb.com <-- A site that only says "coming soon", directly braking a rule
Moddb.com <-- Same deal, it's also not in english which I think breaks another rule

There is nothing to this but plain lazyness. Do you even look at what mods you auth now?

^^ That is the Staff thread where all actions concerning mod authorisations are posted. Although it seems that only ForKmaN and myself post in there. There are occasional gaps between mods when you look through there. I cannot say who authed those mods as the last mod listed is 3333 which I authed.

There are obviously some communication skills still lacking in between staff.

Alright firstly let me defend my staff and at the same time hopefully sharpen them up. I personally don't recall authorising those modifications, however there have been MANY that i have authorised which don't deserve to see the light of day.

you have to remember that sometimes we make exceptions for mods and allow them in even if they havn't abided by all the rules.

i.e. a mod may have a forum and not a site, we email them saying to get a site and auth their mod...
or a mod maybe made for a game like S.T.A.L.K.E.R which doesn't have many mods so we give it a chance where just another 'HL' mod doesn't get given a chance.

authorising mods is actually a tough job, at least 10 get registered daily and you have to tell them all why you deny them and then when you do that, you have to respond to 50 complaint PM's, and negoiate a deal..

granted these mods shoudl never have been authed and slipped through the cracks, but this is a position on this site which is currently greatly undermanned and i think we should be prasing the efforts of Bigbird and Forkeh who are the main mod authers presently. The reason why there arn't more staff doing this is because v1.0 of the site is badly denied, if i give you permission to control mods you can do virtually anything, you can even edit my profile so obviously not many people can have this permission. Plus teh mod system is badly designed with 'Suspended Mods / In-Active Mods / Authed Mods' been the only mod levels, when there should be 'Dead' etc.. as well...

You will be glad to note that v2 fixes all this and i plan on promoting a team of staff to manage the mod listing, so that not only do mods get authed that deserve to be authed, but old inactive mods are marked as dead etc, cleaning up the listing...

just have to bear with the site until v2.0 which i do agree is struggling at present to cop with the large number of 'false' mods clogging the database..

Ok, I understand, as long as this is gonna be fixed then it's ok

eventually.. the sole purpose of v2 is really to smarten and clean up the site and the mod listing is of no exception

Actually a 4-dotter could only edit staff's profiles.

that woulda been how i coded the system, but it was a long time ago so i forget

anyhow i just finished coding in the v2.0 staff page.. its really cool cos the staff page shows the power of the new site in that

it lists all Mod Admins, Game Admins etc... so no longer are you generically a 'Moderator'

but you can be a Game and News Moderator, but not a forum Moderator for example

Whew! I thought for a second that it might be my Warhammer 40,000 mod for Generals.

i think some mods and profiles need to be deleted. Some people have not gotten on here for over 18 months.

yes.. sticky... that is the main reason for this thread

there should be a idle process in count. like if the mod isnt released and its been over 10 months it is either auto deleted or there is a automated response to the mod creator's email saying his mod is in jeopardy of being removed. more often than not these mods are dead anyways.

you should hire someone to delete old accounts and have them check up on it regularly.....

thats what i intend to do in version 2 of the mod database
