Well, personally I do very little games modelling, however the tools I use for highr resolution work are pretty much the same ...

Modelling/animation/rendering: Lightwave 7.5c
Textures/2D: Photoshop 7, Corel Painter 7

Paint? Hrmmm .... sounds rather painful. Hehe.

Well, I've had little experience modelling for games, though I do have some high polygon modelling experience ;-) Personally I've been experimenting with polygon reduction tools (using QEMloss) ... baking high resolution textures, illumination etc (using LW_Baker) to low polygon model textures. Some nice results are possible ...
