Uploading hard to find content on Moddb? (without permission) | Locked | |

Here's the situation. I decided I wanted to replay Sweet Half Life. The problem, Moddb doesn't have the second patch. The official site did, so it all worked out. While not a big issue in this case, there was a little bit of clicking dead links on abandoned websites involved, my concern is that over time these things will become harder to find as file hosts come and go and mod authors bounce around various sites and services without updating their old pages. Yet if the mod authors didn't want to update their moddb page with the latest patches, that's up to them. I don't want upload stuff without permission, but for the sake of both archive and convience, I wonder if I should. |

You can always upload the patch and if the developer wants it removed they can request it. |

This is why we exist - so many mods and great content is lost due to dead links. It is a real shame, even if you go back a few years and browse moddb news you will see so many broken images, which we try hard to avoid now. So yes if the content is freely distributed and it does not mention otherwise please upload it. If the creator requests its removal from the site we shall respect that request. Thanks appreciate you helping us act as an internet archive of sorts of amazing content. I'm always saddened by the fact that one of my most favorite mods "War in Europe" for Half-Life one has basically disappeared from the internet -- Scott Reismanis |

Never heard of "War in Europe" so I took a look. I'd say it went away because it's a pre-steam mod & the HL steam versions made those unplayable. you'd have to get a CD HL version to play. That's my thought (and FilePlanet still has that mod, it wasn't removed yet. :p ) -- Go play some Quake 2: q2server.fuzzylogicinc.com |
