Good day to all! A colleague and I are aspiring developers who have set out upon a great new project, which will go by the code name Persus when it is underway. It is planned to be the future of online shooters in terms of interface and design. As the reference to the Titan of Destruction implies-- the project certainly has massive ambitions and the destruction part speaks for itself. The remaining details will be discussed in greater detail in a more private manner, as I don't want to divulge too much on the message boards. Our current assets and needs are as listed below...
- We currently have a weapon modeler
Sadly, the following is still needed
- AI programmer
- Map Modeler
- Coders with great knowledge of databases and online multi-player servers
- The more modelers the better
As a note we are still trying to decide on the engine to use (this includes the option of coding one).
As we continue to gain more programmers this project should expand very quickly and conception and layout seems to be pretty close to finished. In addition, a website should be set up rather soon, baring some difficulties.
Please respond quickly as I believe this would be a very exciting project.

Not entirely 'first time', we do have experience with some older mod projects. In fact the 'weapons modeler' has even spent much time working on an independent game ( which sadly was put off indefinitely) . While we admit being certainly new to the complete experience we do have understanding of organizing projects and some of the major concepts. On the other hand, MMO is something entirely new and we have a great layout but lack someone with the experience to bring the more network based elements about.

If you are dead set on making an mmo, I suggest using, or buying an engine that already has the network code written. You are looking at a couple thousand man hours to do that from scratch.

I don't know how much research you have done yet, but there are a lot of overhead cost involved in creating and maintaining a mmo, servers being the bulk of that. If you plan on selling this, you also will need to have some kind of 24/7 support center that will also cost a fair amount.

Ambitious yes, realistic no. Rethink your core ideas that you want to do, strip it down to the bare minimum, make that, then start adding the unnessisary features later.

Good luck.
