Unique MOD Idea (Imagined) | Locked | |

Oooookay, forum, this un' is a tough set of questions. I am thinking about creating a mod, called Imagined, for the Half-Life engine. It would be Multiplayer only, with possibly a short single player mode. What would stand out immediatly when you play it is... So... I have all the tools for creating the mod, now I just need the skills. I am able to create a very basic map, I can create the noises pretty well, I have no idea how to make models, sprites, textures, etc. art, No idea how to code... I know this sounds stupid, but I would like my idea to at least have a chance to be seen, and if it is appealing to atleast some, then let the community have remorse and help me with it as we go along. So... Why am I posting this? Okay, so here is the setup... The monsters have primarily melee attacks, are always faster than the humans, and can be small as a dog, or large as an elephant. They are going to be drawn, as the humans will have to be, and are going to be very frightening... Like, deep-sea, fish-with-light-on-its-head and scary-ass-teeth. The humans have the firepower, the weapons, etc., the basic every-day stuff, with a few exceptions (like the Flak Chain Canon, like a chain gun but the tragectories are effected by gravity, and you can see the flak, like you can see paintballs coming at you when you are in a paintball arena, and it makes you very slow. or the Plasma Gun, when shoots waves of blue-green plasma at an encredible rate to create a 'wall') My eMail is XxNuclearxX@aol.com, please reply AND eMail your thoughts and ideas and if you would like to help. |

Why is that? any reason? Would not my mod get more attention from the HL modders and users? |

no but if you dont know how to code your probably out of luck.. thats the toughest job and what your asking for is a major feat. learn to code for hl or something else and people will gladly help you. - Edited By carni On Mon 14th, Jun 2004 @ 1:32:08am |

I plan to code for my mod, but still noone wants to help me... But yeah, coding is probably the scariest part. If you can do it yourself people will probably work for you. |

Does it conform to a Language? I've seen the scripts, they look like C++ or .NET to me. -- -James "Swift" de Mattos |

You program HL mods by making a changes to the dll using a c++ |

Half life is a pain to mod, go with something like ut2004 (or even quake). You can do much more with ut2004 too. |

i don't mean to insult you or anything, but i'm sick of people (i'm kinda embarrased to say i was one of them) who ask where can i learn to code/model/anything-mod-related. can you make one of those threads that stay on the top and is in big bold letters, FIND AN INSTITUTE TO LEARN FROM!!! DON'T LEARN FROM THE COMPUTER, LEARN FROM A PERSON!!! from person = 3X LESS than from computer. u will have questions, and they won't be answered easily. sometimes you will not understand, and have to see it be done with your own eyes, AND THAT WILL TAKE TIME TOO!!! correct meh mistakes ppl!! --

Go for half life 2. Ignore the newbs saying dont go for half life, look how many successful hl mods there is, if you want to build a community then you'll learn to work with hl. -- Why wont it save me? |

But it takes so damn long to make a hl mod most of the "big ones" took at least 2 years or around there. Plus there's already plenty of "successful" mods, and with those mods, I doubt they'll have interest for anything but that. I've modded HL before on all aspects, so I know how much of a pain it could be and how I understand it takes so long. - Edited By CheapAlert On Sat 26th, Jun 2004 @ 8:38:22pm -- < insert subject games here >

I think if you want to make a mod, you should take the time to do it, even if that means 2 years -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |
