For sure - we have wanted to run a "player model" competition for so long to see what everyone can come up with. It'll be interesting to see... I picture nasty Aliens type creatures and cocky humans like Duke... hmmm Try and give your character some personality too - through a short background story. Kinda like Max Payne - so we know what they are like. Edited by: INtense! -- Scott Reismanis |

Who came up with the theme? It sounds exactly the same as the setting of a Matthew Reily novel. --

Good pickup - you are spot on. This is noted on the official competition page. This is original Matthew Reilly version noted on Wikipedia:
We thought this was quite suitable and thus used it as inspiration with the following ideas proposed:

Ahh cool, Scott. I just wanted to make sure nobody was plagiarizing from one of Australia's best writers. (just in case, I wasn't infering that you or anyone else on the staff were stealing ideas, I had assumed Tournament.com had come up with the idea) --

I don't see what's hard about it, all you need is 2 giant breasts, and you're done.... oh now I see what's hard --

There's one thing I don't get which I think is important: where the contestants originate from. You said "match the theme" but the theme is currently not much more than a place without much background. Where do the contetstants come from? Out of "things" inside the museum ( hence do they come out of a certain "topic" alive )? Why is this night taking place ( hence is this a sort of challenge of a higher instance )? As to give a character some history in a given context you need to know a bit how this context looks like. |

From this, you can probably infer that a character of any background is appropriate. I think you are reading too much into it. |

We made it generic to see what you can dream up. We are essentially looking for any hard-ass tough character! -- Scott Reismanis |

One thing that i dont understand is the unproportionate texture size to model tri count. 8k polies usually asks for more texture space than 1024x1024. I understand that this is all relative, but more texture space means more normalmap space, and more detail. So in theory, you have more polies and less texture space to use than a *regular* game character. That means, more mirrored parts, and more duplicates. Like, adding an extra spike, or extra claw is alright, if you recycle the texture. Also, consider the parts of the models that you need to show off, and give them more space on the texture sheet. Let's say you are making a humanoid character. The give his face more detail than the other parts, like undersides of his arms, or soles of his feet. If you are making a camouflage pattern, do not make it too good. You would not want the texture breaking up the silhuette of your beautiful model! Mirror all parts that can be mirrored on the UV sheet. Why the hell did i just type that? No idea. Maybe someone will find it useful. Now to do my chemistry report.. -- |
