Hello,

About a year and a bit ago I made prototype game in college where the player must use their voice to control a character. The theme of the game explored Buddhism where chanting is a practiced way of "praying" or becoming one with the universe. So the player chants into a mic to move a Buddhist monk up and down. While moving the monk up and down with your voice enemies come towards you. These enemies are the 3 roots of of evil in Buddhism which are a snake, rooster and pig. There is also random instances of a lotus flower appearing which gives allows the player regain health if collected.

By avoiding these enemies karma would build up. If the player builds up enough karma a temple would appear and once the monk reaches the temple the game finishes and states you have found your path.

I was thinking for Tablet or Phone but it might bit annoying listening to someone chant into there phone on a train or bus. :P

If I was to build it into full game it would need a lot more refinements in terms of game play and achievements.

Let me know what you think.

If I have to be completely honest It's a good idea but you should try to give a little more detailed information about it.
So far it doesn't really interest me in particular (Others could like it ofcourse).
The whole idea about Buddhism and Monks just doesn't really appeal to me but that's just me (Never been a big fan of Religion since most things I've seen of it just seem so unreal and fake to me, well whatever I can't say much when believing in something else which would even be considered weirder than Christianity, Buddhism and whatnot. (Even so It's nothing religious), Not trying to be rude to any religious people of course, don't take me wrong.
Even so that has nothing to do with your game whatsoever so I'm sorry for mentioning it, just felt like I needed to empty my thoughts.
Then again the whole 'Voice controlled' thing seems very interesting though, I hope to see more of this.
I feel your idea could turn into something sweet if you give it some more thought.

Thanks for the feedback!! Ya its understandable that the relgious theme wouldn't be everybodies thing I just felt it gave the player some purpose for using their voice as "chanting". I will give more details and screenshots soon. Its a bit rough and made in Flash. :P

But thanks anyway :)

To replace the religion problem it could just be a satanic chant no need to worry about that ;)

and as for the voice controls good luck

I do not deny evil, nor do I believe that any human is completely free of malice. Everything must be in balance. As long as evil and good maintain an equilibrium in this world there is no problem. Perfect balance is the key to everything.

I like this idea. Could work well with current gen too, I know PS4/XboxOne are making good use of voice commands.

Someone should make a who wants to be a millionaire? game triggered entirely by voice commands. "A", is that your final answer? "Yes". "Lifeline", which would you like to use? "phone a friend". Ok, let's phone a friend...

To me it sounds like a good idea for mobile platforms since it isn't resource heavy. IMO voice commands would be also a very logical solution on mobile platforms where the problem is you only get to use the touchscreen for input. And phones do have built-in microphones.

Having such a game for nextgen PS4 etc makes one wonder how on earth are you going to use all the computing power? Well of course you could just fill it with graphical beauty and make everything in 3D with crazy stuff like realtime reflections and fluid dynamics just for the appearance.

Voice command programming is very hard from what I've heard, how did it go with the prototype you made? Even more so if you can't use libraries and have to do all the detecting and matching algorithms yourself. If you intend to go with pitch and volume only then that is significantly easier although still pretty unknown territory and undocumented.

BTW while we're talking about voice command games, check this video out about PS2 game Lifeline. I watched almost the entire stream back in the days and there were some solid gold moments there. Youtube.com

The prototype relied on volume so it was sensitive forcing the character to be a little jumpy. I am no coder so it was difficult even getting that to work and it was produced in flash. I will upload the prototype when I get home this evening. You guys can give me more feedback on it then. I understand if I wanted it to be controlled by tone and words it would be very complex.

Thanks for all the feedback :)

The who wants to millionaire concept is pretty cool would be cool to do :)

Hey Guys here is the prototype I appreciate feedback but please don't be too harsh as its very rough and made in flash :) You will need a mic plugged in before you play or it wont work.

If its not working here is a link to the upload Mostplays.com :)

I have posted the prototype if anyone's interested in giving feedback :)
