With the release of Half-Life 2 just a week a way, I'm sure many people are literally on the edge of their seats, dying to play what PCGAMER defined as "Arguably the best game ever". Then there are those geeks, like me, who cannot wait to write a review on it. I think we all recognize that it would be rather stupid if 20 people wrote their own reviews in the name of modDB, so we should attempt to come to some understanding of who will write the official review. There are several very talented writers here, who could write a review worth remembering, maybe even one recognized on official HL2 sites, among the reviews of higher-respected groups, like GameSpot.

So, let's hear who you'd like to write the review. Please take some time to read some of the other reviews here, to get a feel for the talents of the various writers. Or you could stipulate that everyone who wants to, should write a review, and only then after reading them should one be chosen as the official modDB HL2 review. Or we could just post multiple reviews. Let's hear some ideas! I'm pumped for HL2! W00T!

there needs to be a poll

MASTER CHIEF VS GORDON FREEMAN

FIGHT!

freeman could crowbar MC's ass before he could get a melee rocket launcher attack in.

plus, freeman has uber sexy glasses

Master-cheif would win. I wish I could get hal2 tonight, but I cannot drive and my dad will not take me :( I did reserve a collectors edition though :) I would like to write a review though, and will be reviewing Halo 2 after I play it.

I would review HL2, though I don't want to. I'm to busy playing Halo 2 then playing HL2. :P

No way man. If gordon freeman got anywhere near MC, MC would b*tch slap gordon in the face with his awesome pistol. Plus, MC has shields.

I'll write a review for both Halo 2 and Half-Life 2 for Moddb if you want. If someone else desires to, however, we'll just post ours and there will be a vote for which one is the better.

I reserved the CE of Halo 2 today and I paid $10 extra for overnight shipping, so tomorrow afternoon, I'll be wasting my hours away playing it all the time :D And this Saturday, me and my friends are going to be playing non-stop Halo 2 16-player LAN party the entire day. Of course, I have to find someone who will trade shifts with me so I don't have to go to work from 10 am to 2 pm.

Gordon Freeman has shields, too, with his suit. :P

Yeah, but do they automatically recharge a lot faster in the sequal to his best-selling game? I think not.

I was planning to write a review on HL2, but that depends if I can get my hands on it what with this steam crap and me being really bad at making steam work

Um, if you play Half-Life 2 SP, then you won't have to deal with the Steam crap. If you're playing Counter-Strike: Source, however, and adding that in, that's a different issue. Maybe you can do a follow-up review to the review of CSS and I'll do the HL2 review? Or something like that... just a suggestion, of course.

CSS was already reviewed though....

That's why I said a follow-up review, silent :P

I don't know. It's up to Sajt what he wants to do. Maybe we'll just both make reviews on the same game, then :|

But how do I get the game in the first place? There will probably be some sort of insane CD-key checking via steam, don't you think?

How about we all do reviews of hl2 ( I want to review it too :D) and Halo 2 (I want to review that also) and post the halo2 ones at the same time, and let peeps vote, and same for the hl2 reviews? Or is there no reson to do that?

I'd prefer to see a staffer write the review of HL2 for modDB, but then, Karuto has proven that he can write some pretty good reviews. But one thing: Whoever writes the review, remember to use consistent grammar, good spelling, and a humourous anectdote that relates to the whole thing. Can't go wrong with that :D

Remember, I've got dibs on the STALKER review. :)

yeah same here because, I hate to say it but I think people would kinda think someone got extra privelages if a regular member wrote a review. Write your own reviews on your own sites :P

Okay, so we are now calling dibs on games to review? I'm officially calling F.E.A.R. then! :rambo:

I agree that only taffers -I mean staffers- should write a modDB review, and thats the way it is right now, and it works great. Still, it would be awesome if some talented writers who aren't staff, like Karuto, would write some reviews on their own time, and post them in the forums for the whole community to enjoy.

I'd prefer to see the many people do reviews, with a game of this caliber, it doesn't hurt to read the different opinions.

I would enjoy that very mucho :o

Would be a good review, becuase your not someone who likes new games, so it would be a challange to see if it makes you go ":o noice game"

or "ohh "wonderful" " :P

and HL2 single player might install into its own dir, then when you open steam it will ask if you want to port over

CS:CZ done that, you could play it single player n awl that in its own dir, but for more options (multiplayer, updates etc..) you had to let steam copy it over to the steam dir.

Nothing.

Nov 9 2004 Anchor

Lol, I've been playing games since I was 3, and I can sure as hell say there are plenty of new games I don't enjoy :) Not to mention, I have been posting my reviews on the Moddb forums, but it'd be great to have the chance to help out with the reviews. Of course, if Sajt would rather do the review by himself, then I won't stop him :S

Let's just say, we'll have a vote when everyone posts their reviews (maybe on one thread?) and see which one is the best. Either that, or have a link in the Reviews section of the Moddb to everyone's quality review so people will have different perspectives on the game(s).
