Take off "download mod" button. Thread

Untill moddb gets a download server, the "download mod" button should be removed, which would avoid the same question being asked on a single thread almost every week from new noobs arriving. Why do they ask anyway? They obviously enter "Suggestion, Comments & Complaints" to click "New Topic". How do they not see all the other topics saying: "Download Problem". If thats not good enough, how do they not see the announcment to begin with when they are trying to download it?

Anyway, shouldn't the button be removed for now?

They should leave it, so Scotty can instantly implement it by uploading a server that can help target the downloads to it so that all the mods in the past who hosted their mods on Moddb with downloads would already have it ready for other people.

? its been like a year since that button has been implemented, and they haven't gotten servers yet..

actually it started in September and remeber this site is free and Scott is trying to save up enough to get a good server without having to charging everyone money just to use it

lol i don't need to be reminded this site is free, :-P i really couldn't give a damn one way or the other ya know, just pointing out reasons for it.

id say keep it but cross it out some how...I get 20 emails a month: " WHY CANT I DOWNLOAD "

No. It's our button and we'll damn well parade it around if we want. Its a good button, its a fine button. You're just jealous because you don't have a button. Well you're not having ours.

Besides, if you want to help with modDB, click on the ads, or even better, advertise. Or even better than that, donate.

Well, it seems you've already been using the forums for that purpose. But yes, it costs money to advertise too, OBVIOUSLY, otherwise it wouldn't be helping modDB.

because INtense! is devoting his time to getting downloads working in some manner.

Well with the issues Oktagones having atm, I wouldnt consider the download server being up for along time.

So I vote to remove it.

"Mod Database - News & features... one site is all you need!" doesn't have a good ring to it...

Why can't we have a link to the mod download if it's already somewhere?

Oh yea... one thing about this, In the mod profile the text says:"for Doom is available to DOWNLOAD right now, simply click here".

In the mod image gallery the text says:"for Doom is NOT yet available to DOWNLOAD".

I know that, but advertising there would mean I could cut down a bit over here in the forums, and people who do not go to the forums will get a chance to see it. PLus it will give people the idea that my mod is good/important enough to advertise. Who do I talk to to arrange this, and how much does it cost? I guess I would have to get a good banner for you guys to put up first...
