I am currently working on the design doc and website for this mod idea but I thought it helpful to get some feedback on the idea and see what people think.

Like the topic subject says, its essentially a survival mod with 2 teams... 1 team is the marines, the other team are the infected zombie types.

Basically the marines have to survive 2 minute rounds against the zombies. If all the marines are killed then the zombies win. If at least 1 marine is still alive after the 2 mins are up the marines win.

That should all be simple enough but to juice things up a little and create the feeling of the marines fighting to the last against an unending tide of zombies there are a couple of respawning changes:
1) If you as a zombie are killed you respawn.
2) If you are a marine are killed by a zombie you become a zombie (its like you have been infected. The zombie that did the killing becomes a marine in the next round as a sort of reward).

The zombies will be fast and tough but because their brains are turned to mush, their only weaponry will be their fists or they can pick up large objects to throw (assuming the Havok physics engine works as Valve want it to).

The marines will be split into 4 classes each with special abilities (ala TFC). For instance the technician can build up to 2 sentry guns but once they run out of ammo they are useless (remember those auto guns in Aliens?). I wont describe the other 3 classes but they follow the same logic.

So basically the tactical element is achieved by how well the marines can use these special abilities to hold back the zombies in those 2 minutes. I think I have given enough details there to give you an idea of the mod. Let me know what you think :)

sounds good, but i think 2 minutes would make it too easy for marines.

True, Im thinking balancing will be a big issue for this mod. It may change because though u are in rounds you wont stop playing if u die (unlike CS).

Nice Idea :) lol 2 minutes is short. maybe 3 or 4 minutes but if you get the balancing right as well as the levels this shoud be very good. :)

I agree with the balancing issue that most everyone else has mentioned--perhaps make it a serverside setting, so different servers can have different round lengths, and perhaps limited respawns for the marines. Anyway, that looks like it might be a neat mod, or maybe a gamemode (to save yourselves time). Good luck!

Yeah I will up it a bit cause the only people likely to be waiting in spec mode are those who've just joined the server or marines who kill themselves. I think they can wait a 1-off 3 mins or so :)

I suggest 5 min, thats the time the use in socom navy seals 2, and it does fine.
It does'nt even have to do with aliens wtf! It also depends on the kind of place they figth in. I was thinking sci-fi inside a space ship little room ( get killed faster ).
I see 28 days later :), !!!!explosives!!!!. Big big poop. ( big areas ) This maybe the first mod i'll get for HL2 and mine if they come out.
