Hee hee, I LOVE Spore. Always have. Always will. Not many games give a convincing example of both evolution and intelligent design. Very neutral, I like it. And it can't get bashed by Jack Thompson (let his remains rot in hell). Hooray! |

I agree. There's already a thread for this in General Banter, but it's old and thusly this thread is ok. I really wanna upgrade my computer for this. Really really do. |

Spore is not that graphically savvy. But it will be lots of fun. Saw a live demo back in June of last year from an EA rep. -- snetErz.com - Web Design |

Spore looks great and the idea of procedurally generated content should be of special interest to modders. |

Wow! I haven't heard much about Spore before and didn't know why people were looking forward to it until I saw the 30min game play video. I'm hooked on it now. That video just kept on surprising me time after time. Whats the release date? -- "Well, I usually charge 5 bucks for these, but since it's YOU man... it's 10." |

AFAIK, there's no release date set just yet.
Why? I have strong doubts that it's moddable |

Nothing. The point is that it promotes procedurally generated content. Which us modders are supposed to love, because we all suck at making our own assets. Or at least that's what all the industry-heads are saying. |

I think Spore is exactly the direction the gaming industry needs to go. More emphasis on user created output and less on linear retreads of the same redundant crap. And besides, I just want to make a cute, lovable alien race that will look oh so wubbable when it annihilates the universe. |

....does this mean you think Alexander was cute? |

Evil Carebears of death for the win! I'm also looking forwards to Spore for the reasons of player generated content and hopefully a distinct lack of linearity and repetition. We'll see though^^ |

I'll be making vaguely simian creatures who will rule the galaxy with an iron fist. First, my solar system, then my immediate area, then, galactic dominions. |

The game looks like incredible fun... the only thing I can even think i'd want to add or mod is giving my race some custom 'english' words and phrases.... perhaps similar to 'worms' for a laugh...I'm not sure if that's already included in the game though. -- Rarhg |

I'll call them....the Klaits Yes. Inoccuous, but with a hint of sinister. |

The entire game is a mod unto itself. A massively single player mode. I *LOVE* the concept of all these people, millions, all creating their own little worlds that you can travel around and visit to see what they created, each with their own metropolises and environments to visit in your spaceship. I just saw the live G4TV E3 event they had, and Kevin got to play a demo of Spore, and even the Creature Creation feature would take hours, even days out of my life just trying to come up with something I wanted. If they made a game based solely around that facet, I would buy it and love it for months. I can't wait. I'm definitely going to be the first one there to buy it. But first... *me slaps Spector I pity you, foo'! -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

You can't see what other people have created directly; but random creations other people have may appear in your worlds. It's not a direct MMO as such - but I suppose you can see other peoples creations. A lot of stuff you'll see, will likely be stock creatures, objects etc. too I should also imagine. |

I'm most impressed with the textures in those 4 shots. They're far better than Generals' were. |

In Spore does your creatures have to evolve where they have cities, cars ect?I just want them to be creatures not living in buildings.Regardless of the answer I'm buying this game once i get a release date. |

You create the cities for them, and offer them their respective technologies, which they may or may not use (spears, tanks, aircraft etc.) - you can design all of this using the inbuilt editor, and their design has a direct affect on whether your species will accept it and use it, or reject it outright. You don't have to do it, you can stay on a nomadic level if you so desire - just don't expect to get much further than that Edited by: ambershee |
