TOKYO--About 4,800 Japanese PSPs have been returned to Sony due to problems with the handheld's square button, according to a recent interview with Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi in Nikkei Business magazine. "The button's location is [architectured] on purpose," Kutaragi added. "It's according to specifications. This is something that we've created, and this is our specification. There was a clear purpose to it, and it wasn't a mistake." Offering additional testimony praising the handheld, Kutaragi said, "I believe we made the most beautiful thing in the world. Nobody would criticize a renowned architect's blueprint that the position of a gate is wrong. It's the same as that." so, because they have a buggy button, its ok, because it has good graphics? not a psp flame, but sony in general, their buisiness practices are so outragous! |

It's not the matter of graphics. He was calling the architecture of the PSP the most beautiful thing in the world, which he is, of course, allowed to say. I think there's more to the story then you have read. You'd probably have to read more articles about this story before bashing Sony and Kutaragi. Hey, bugs happen. This is Sony's first foray into the handheld gaming market. Nintendo has had plenty of things like this happen when their first Gameboy hit the market. Unless you bought one of the first Japanese versions of the GB, you didn't notice any real problems, because most/all of them were fixed before they were shipped overseas. We'll just have to see how this thing develops. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

But Dude, a Billion Dollar Company, with a millions-of-Dollars marketing Budget should know better. |

a few buggy things? holy hell, i think you missed the 4800 that is unacceptable! and i dont remember nearly 5000 gb's being sent back for faulty a/b buttons its not even just the button, the disks flying out, dead pixels (ds has these too, someone needs to find a better LCD manufacturing meathod) , the joysticks breaking i'd say the PSP is off to a worse launch than Star Wars Galaxies, except not even star wars fanboys could stand it, and sony fanboys worship psp |

It doesn't really matter. We're going to get a much better version of the handheld, which is practically guaranteed. They always fix the problems before they send their products overseas. The US is becoming a much bigger market than Japan, after all -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

4800 isn't that big of a number in a 7 billion dollar industry. |

it's 0.6 % of the entire shipment. Also, the flaw is in the design. It's not a poduction error, it's INTENDED. Meaning every unit suffers from it. It's just that most people don't take it as a reason to return the PSP. For those who didn't read up on it: It's a flaw in the square button that make it less responsive. It's caused by a slighty off sensor. The sensor is shifted to the right of the button, because the button is so close to the display. This causes a less responsive button and sometimes the button even gets stuck. |

Who cares handheld gaming blows ass... get a fragbox :/ --
|

Yeah, don't spend $150, spend $4500 FragBox is a dream machine, buddy. Meaning, "IN YOUR DREAMS" You could buy 30 Nintendo DS's for the price of one FragBox. I'd rather buy an Alienware, which, when priced around the same, is perhaps the most powerful gaming PC on the market that can play Doom 3 on Extreme (or High or whatever) specs. Well, I'll just have to see how bad that "flaw" is when I buy a PSP. 'Till as far as I am concerned this does not matter, and 0.6% is not very much. |

fragbox? phux that! get a mini mac and put linux on it! |

DS has had less reports of dead pixels however, so they've won on that side. Its not really the fact that 4800 PSP's have been turned in, its that they all have this design flaw, plenty of people would still be annoyed by it. This is the kind of thing that may not be fixed for other market releases. |

rofl, the pc I built is better then Fragbox or most alienware PC's. And at half the price. Anyways, I think handheld systems are for people who have no life. When I go outside, it's usually to get away from the computer or video games, not so that I can play it even more. --

fragbox... ive never heard of a fragbox.. but alienware is cool -- 360 is great, my live accounts are frozenrazor154 and macro razor154.I show up for a month , i disappear for two ... what is wrong with that? |

fragbox is like a gamecube, only its a computer, and with much more power. |

GameCube is the most durable console out there... Other than that there is not much good about it. Damn French engineering for you. PSP wil wrock, 'nuff said.Well, I say that without having played it, but the design sure is sexeh, I bet you are beating off to it now Divid. |

gamecube is superior to wilhelm_III and aint that the truth. though, the david cult, have you seen Resident Evil 4, or any upcoming titles? I'd wager the Gamecube and Xbox are just as powerful as a fragbox |

except you vertuallydont need memory cards for da box -- 360 is great, my live accounts are frozenrazor154 and macro razor154.I show up for a month , i disappear for two ... what is wrong with that? |

Actually, the Gamecube is more powerful than the PS2, with better graphics and better performance. Nintendo has had far less units shipped back to them than both PS2 and Xbox combined. Not to mention, if the Xbox didn't have its hard drive, the Gamecube would be the best console on the market (not meaning most sold; just the flat out best). It's been proven. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

gamecube is more powerful, but ps2 has much more great games |

Also, the GameCube is more durable. More durable by 1 test granted, but still. also, the ps2 was a pioneer for most things that both consoles use, like say internet gameing, SOCOM: Navy Seals was the first online console game, for PS2. Annnd, the PS3 looks promising, more so than the Xbox2 and GamCube2 I think. Wow, this has gone waaay of subject. |
