Removing letterboxing from ModDB? (Forums : Support : Removing letterboxing from ModDB?) Locked

I've been around on ModDB for a relatively decent amount of time and I know that when I joined there were not these giant black boxes on the left and right of the sides of the screen. Is there any way to remove these? I personally liked the other design before it was decided to cover the sides up with giant black spaces.

Sounds like your blocking elements, the side bars sometimes have adverts, this may be why you have the black bars.
Can you show a screenshot?

I turned off my Adblocker and loaded up a few random pages on the site and not a single Ad covered up the black boxes on the side. It wouldn't make a difference anyway though, as its not part of the issue. My issue is this: Mediafire.com
The site originally looked like the top when I joined, but then later on in 2011, I think, the addition of the giant black boxes on the side came around giving the appearance of a letterboxed site. I honestly think it looks terrible and would love to remove it. Were these added for mobile users?

After asking a friend who has been around longer, he says that these black boxes are indeed Ad spaces for "special" games. I don't understand why these would be here when a game ISN'T being advertised though.

Yes those black boxes are indeed for special ads.

Well would prefer just the old grey background (overridden by special ads when they are up) same as Joebama rather than black "placeholder" boxes for ads that very rarely show up there (well almost never; seen only like one special ad here during the whole lifetime of using the site, so almost nothing for a few years).

Edit:
PS: you can post your suggestions here: Moddb.com
