Probably the best way is to get something good together, get it posted up and get people interested in working on it by showing that you're serious to start with. It takes a seriously good idea to encourage people to spend time working on something for a long period without having something there to whet their appetite first with.

They should bring help wanted back, that was the only thing that holding things together! =0

yes they really should.

But when you have a mod like black mesa you don't need to ask !
I am sure they 've got people lining up for that mod.

so wat Stormseeker said was also a bit right ,you can post a million requests for help ,if your mod is not good they will ignore them compleatly!

Help Wanted is coming back, its just one of those things thats going to take a while because of everything else going on (MOTY, new forums etc).

You definitely need something tangible to try and attract people, and try to present yourself fairly professionally. You can recruit via your website (have a section with a list of positions you need filling, and a description for each), use the Help Wanted when it comes back, and also the ModDB forums (promotes discussion). Most people won't want to join a mod if you don't present yourself well, and if you have nothing to show, its going to be hard to attract people. So really if you can get some good content up and running, show that you're serious about looking for a team and people to work with you, then you shouldn't have too many troubles

It depends on who you are looking for, really.
If you want concept artists for your mod there are better places to look for help than Moddb, Deviantart.org, e.g. Then there are sites really specialised in a certain game. If I wanted to mod Unreal 3, I'd go to BeyondUnreal and check their forums and see, if I like something. Generally its best to adress people you want to work with in form of an e-mail, or PM and tell them why you need them. Don't make it sound like you are doing them a favor, make sure you expect them to work for the team and be a part of it; I'm experiencing a renegade concept artist situtation myself, atm. Not pleasant...

Of all the people I found for my mod, only 1/3rd are ModdB-Members. You shouldn't rely on putting a help request up and waiting for the good people to enter. You better actively go searching for them and search also for styles you like, people you think will blend. It's no use recruiting the first twenty modellers, just because they applied. Try to find a balanced setting, so new modellers and more experienced ones can work together and each find something important (matching their talent) to do in your mod,
