Most of the time, if a game takes a very short time to beat, there's a chance it might be because the game was so engrossing, you couldn't stop playing it until you beat it. Games such as Half-Life 2 and Ratchet & Clank are examples for myself. You finish them in a week because you don't want to do anything else but play the game. Pick up Xenosaga or strategy games such as Disgaea or Makai Kingdom. Those are some long games, and they're fun. EDIT: Oh, and don't forget about Resident Evil 4 or Socom 3. Games with high replayability will be real nice, too. Edited by: Karuto -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

games are short because companies don't give a damn about lengitivity and replayability. They just want a pretty picture to look good to sell great. Quake's or even Doom's shareware episodes may be longer than many of today's games Edited by: leilei -- < insert subject games here >

hl2 has not beein addicting and i knackered it down in a day or two (only playing some hour at night). yes games today are totally going down the drain. if you wanna play something with length get the old Deus-Ex as an example. if you really play this game you sit on it for quite some time. |

I have an idea. Buy a game that doesn't suck. There are many games out there that can take well over 30 hours to complete (for someone who only has about 3 free hours in a day, they take a while.) If you're looking for a game that's longer than that, buy an MMO. |

Yes games, are very short. I think that Final Fantasy 10 for ps2, kind of old, was the longest game i have ever played. -- Sc(+)pe |

First five classic Doom levels got me more than Call of Duty series with all the add-ons It's a bit pathetic how they try to add the re-play value to the games, for example MOH:PA where you can try collecting all the medals for silly additional missions - who the hell does that once you complete the game, you don't want to play it again this days. Th games with highest replay value? Doom (Inferno episode), Rise of the Triad, WWF Wrestlemania, Under a Killing Moon, Blood (first or second).. Pre-2000's actually. |

Maybe its just because you can't pull yourself away from the computer for a few hours a day >_> I purposly take my time with playing a game, otherwise I waste my money faster, and also because I have a job, work for 2 mods and nibble on my toe every-so-often. |

If you learn how to spell, that would take some of your spare time up , Yes new games aren't long, depending on the genre the longer the game gets the longer it takes to develop, and with todays games being highly time consuming (and budget eating) Games will probalies get shorter, especially if that "OMG GFX!!1" have/are to get better, Those art assets take a long time to make you know |

I remember when they announced HL2 would be a short game. And Max Payne 2. The developers said it was because no one likes a game that takes a while to complete. I thought "idiots." --

Depends, I preferred KOTOR to KOTOR2 (for example) because I think KOTOR was quicker and easier to complete, perhaps it was just harder rather than longer, but with any RPG, if it's over a certain length you feel the urge to restart too many times, and it's *very* hard to replay an RPG if you know all the NPC conversations too well, you just end up skipping most of the role playing aspect of it, and can get boring. -- teamgames are for those who want to blame their losses on others. Play deathmatch you wuss. |

Shadows of the Colossus and Ico were great games, but they were short. I say that even if the games doesn't happen to take up a lot of time, so long as the experience as rewarding, I'm all for buying it. It seems the good games have started off at only $40, while the crap games stay at $50.... -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

how many people bought the lord of the rings collecters set? or a full anime series on dvd if you're into that? the last one, 200 dollars for all of gundam wing, 52 episodes (roughly, isnt it?), 20 min each after commercials, only 17 hours 40 dollars for all 4 batman movies, not even 8 hours they are allowed to do this because you'll tolerate it truth is, if you can resist buying that game untill its only 10 dollars you can send the message that you wont put up with it, but since you're so 'game obsessed' then you probably wont and the situation will worsen. |

If I'm going to spend $99.95 on a game, I want a game with some goddamn replay value. I'm with Darkcyde, I haven't bought any of these new games that have come out over the last couple of months, I'll wait until they're in the bargain bin at Christmas. Only game I'm buying on release day is Oblivion, as it should have around about 200 hours of play time, not including playing through again as different characters, or modding. I'm looking forward to Earth 2160 in a few days. I wasted so many hours on starcraft, and earth just looks even better. A real good way to get some time killed is play impossibly difficult DOS games. Find a copy of Crusader: No Regret or Magic Carpet 2 and enjoy the ride. |
