I'm a programmer looking for a team that already has a programmer. I have no experience with game programming, so I'd like to take the role of an assistant, not a lead programmer. The programming language doesn't matter to me - I can code in pretty much anything and I pick up new languages almost instantly. My programming background is mainly with computer vision and data mining applications, mostly in C. I have a knack for problem solving algorithms.

I have a legal license for Visual Studio 2008 and prefer to use the VS2008 environment for development, however I'm fine with most other development environments. As for platforms available to me, I have the Source SDK, Unreal Development Kit (UDK), and Microsoft XNA (with Xbox 360 support). I'd be willing to work with any SDK/platform as long as the tools are available to me for free.

My web host is currently acting up, so my website is down. Check out my moddb profile for an example tutorial, with source code (download section) to see my programming style.

Thanks! PM, reply, or talk to me on AIM.

Programmers tend to be stretched thin. Most teams are lucky to get one, let alone two! Would you work solo if you knew there were other coders floating around the forums/on various instant messengers? It might help more than concentrating even more coding expertise in one place ;)

I'd work solo on a simple project that doesn't put too much pressure on me. If the project is something huge, I'd much rather be working with other coders. Basically, I'd really like to keep this as an educational experience for me. I don't want to have to stress out - I'd like to keep it interesting and fun!

Gibberstein - did you have an idea in particular?

Hmm, the thing is, I might have use for another programmer, but I would have to talk to my only programmer, which I can't do at the moment. I can do it today though. Would you be interested in helping out in a sort of "indie" rts game? We're using XNA. But as I said, I have to talk to him first.

That would be cool. I actually have a book on XNA 3.5 that someone gave me. I haven't looked at it yet, though. Let me know!

Hi gerry,

I am looking for a programmer for my project, Depth!

Moddb.com

It's a multiplayer game about the troubled relationship between Sharks, and divers.

It makes use of the UDK tool, so you would be writing code in Unrealscript.
Right now, I am the only one writing code, but I really could use a hand, because I am actually an artist and not a programmer at all :P

If this interests you, let me know!

Hi Gerry,

I have a relatively incomplex project that could act as a fairly good primer into games programming that you may be interested in. You'd largely be working solo, but under good direction from myself. It also a UDK project, and there's no specific deadlines or time frame, so you're free to work at your own pace for the time being while you learn the ropes.

If you're potentially interested, fire me off an e-mail, and I'll drop you some details.

So far, it looks like I'll be joining a team that is developing on the Source engine. I'll know later today how that goes and I'll post the results :-)

Ambershee, you've got a PM going your way...
