Hello Moddb love the site here,

As a mod maker of basic ability sometimes I wish to BRIBE people to come to my mod page , sadly i'm not a millionaire so its unlikely to happen.
However sometimes I see contests and even have a minor IDEA of making my own CONTEST.

So Why this thread then I predict you thinking ?

People / Players of games and mods simply have no reason to trust me , I cant blame them after all my experience is non existent and until I release an alpha
that's unlikely to change.
However I'd like to be able to have an official contest with clear set rules and have there no doubt as to the validity of a prize on offer ...
Perhaps we can Offer Prepaid Bundle offers as Contests and have a MODDB or indie DB admin Authorize it as a VALID PRIZE / Contest.

The way I see it this would benefit MODDB as they could Profit more (I personally wouldn't object to a small processing fee for example) and this process could ultimately be more or less automated into indie bundle systems much like news postings are done now with minimal interactions from moddb staff.

My own Example /possible future contest : Previously I had a contest to have people submit flag art works that would then be added into my mod as the prize... turns out people didn't like that prize much .. now if I could offer the best three entrys prepaid game bundles .. well suddenly I may get more interest.

Another Example from a contest listing recently made someone random offers $1000 to a best game / developer now how can one trust there is actually cash going to be awarded to the winner ? solution : A MODDB Official Prize option whereby you send $1000 to MODDB (and a processing fee ) which is then handed out at completion of the Contest.

I understand that when involving cash it is difficult but I have faith this could be worth the effort.
Opinions , suggestions on flaws in my argument or even dare I say it agreements please post below and thanks for taking the time to read all this.

I am interested in this although I would approach from a game developers point of view and not a modders. My only thing with a something like this is putting game devs and modders in the game thing.

Brilliant and yes im aware my idea is flawed clearly though this shows indie developers as well as at least one modder would like to have moddb officiate their contests and hand the prizes out on completion of them. (please note im in no way suggesting this should be a free service )

This may be a bad idea but I was thinking free entry but all games/mods made are open source and can not be sold. Doing this will help the next generation as they can look at the projects and deconstruct them to learn.

Not gonna happen. Because Moddb is a mod database. I'd love for it to become something more, but watching and contributing the past ten years made me give up hope. This site is going to shits and everyone who has been here for longer than 3 years knows it. I'm still trying to support it, but honestly, I don't know what I am supporting any more...

We could always host our own. maybe not have money as the price but im sure we could gather something people would like.

dragon cast all mods are NEVER going to be open source , I certainly like open source materials but its a matter of generosity verses reward and frankly there isn't going to be any reward for some of those giving out open source other then satisfaction of a job well done.
Some modders make cash from their hobbies and i'm not wanting my thread to be hijacked to discuss the merits of full source disclosure other then to suggest it would be economically unviable (EXAMPLE : one project i'm working on right now with a whole team of 1 persons working on it has source files of about 45 gig that's just one modder and guess what that ones not even remotely finished.
Now back onto the TOPIC PREPAID competitions or suggestions on how to host obviously FAIR competitions in a manner that wont break a modders (or indie developers) bank.
I do want to make a competition in the future .. though probably in another few years as ill be wanting to be closer to releasing my completed mod.

Don't force it, get a larger hammer.
I tried to daydream, but my mind kept wandering

We have and still will run competitions.
@splat Whilst its a good idea, it needs allot more fleshing out, with real criteria, rules, promotion and pr.
@sinking & figalot We are working on some things, however bare in mind, they take time to prepare.

There's no reason the community couldn't collect and run their own competitions, there's nothing stopping you doing this.
Kinda like a kickstarter for competitions, chip in and register and have a chance at winning the prize pool.
