Currently in the works of developing a 3d multiplayer horror game, quite heavily inspired by the movie "The Thing". Essentially, some players are scientists on a research mission trying to survive while one player is a monster chasing them.

I'm stuck trying to figure out what kind of environment the game should be set in. I want something scary and interesting yet not overdone.
So I'm curious as to what you guys would consider to be the most scary (and interesting) game environment. It should be something dark, isolated and potentially hazardous.

The current ideas I am considering are:

- Present day arctic research base - like in the movie (hazards: cold, blinding snowstorms)
- A dark and gritty space station (hazards: spaaaace, steampipes)
- Underground alien/cthulian city (hazards: aggressive flora, traps)

So please cast your vote above. Or below. Or where the poll shows up. Any additional ideas would be most welcome as well! Thanks.

Space station is unique. There is no sound in the cosmos and less likely that someone will come to help you. Unground alien choice is very hard to make IMHO. Arctic research facility was already done in The Thing but if you feel like staying true to John Carpenter or trying to come up with something new...

I would go with number 2.
