Before stating what I would like added, I would like to say what makes modDB's forums better than everyone else's. It is well-organized; I can tell where one topic or post ends and where the other begins. The people are much nicer; how nice the people are never ceases to amaze me. Finally, the forum is not cluttered with unnecessary junk (like tons of information next to each post), there are no section-specific moderators, none of the staff are ego and power obsessed, and I don't have to scroll sideways to look at stuff.

 for the modDB!

That said, I have a wishlist of features that I think would improve the already best forum ever:

1. a n00b section - No, seriously. So that way new people can introduce themselves without ppl getting angry that that (sic) person made a post introducing his/herself. I was once on a forum with such a feature; it worked out well!

2. a spam section - While doing research on other forums, I saw one that one had such a section. (I swear!) I assume it did not count towards post counts, and apparently the "other rules" still applied. With such a section, energy could be vented, thus cutting down on spam in the other sections. ;) -EDIT: yeah, yeah I know there already was one :P

3. the ability to start polls - I saw several forums with this feature; it looks like fun!

So what's your feedback? Am I crazy?

As long as the active topics look like this

Forumz.wuggawoo.co.uk

The hover stuff, totally freaking rocks. (last reply, thread title).

I like the hover details a lot, azz0r. Very nice.

We used to have a spam section, S + F, which is now read-only. It was a lot of fun, but the problem is that it took over the forum. The rest of the forum was dead and had nothing of worth in it, everyone posted in S + F. We don't need a spam section, this isn't a playground. It's a gaming/modding site.

Nevertheless, this is a forum; Cosmos has nothing to do with gaming or modding. My theory is that a spam forum would not go out of control if nothing posted in there counts towards post counts.

It doesn't matter if it relates to gaming, but we still want a mature community. Having a spam section only encourages morons to register so they can post stupid ass topics all the time. Every forum I've staffed that had a spam section had negative effects from it. The general quality of the community drops when you have a giant section dedicated to worthless crap. Know what I'm saying?

I mean seriously, what do you people want to post about so badly that you want a spam section? What is so fun about that?

I see... Well, how about a help-wanted forum, so that way help-wanted requests don't fill the Mod Discussion forum. And how about statistics under forum profiles (latest posts by this member, most active in, % of forums posts, etc.)?

A cool thing I just spent coding all day is karma.

Just like vBuletins reputation system.

You can leave a comment and positive or negative + comment for a user, you get 25 points, when used up you have to wait 24hours before you can rep again.

Its pretty nifty imho. Id like it here.

Naw, Karma would get abused :|

May 21 2004 Anchor

Nope, it works fine on Teamxbox (5000 active members per each day).

It lets people know if theyre retarded, annoying, frustrating, etc

May 21 2004 Anchor

Yeah, but what if someone keeps registering and registering or constantly keeps voting negative, just to see someone's karma go down?

That person would be a loser.

Well, there are many people like that. 24 hours system would prevent the "losers" from lowering the stats, I think. A good idea is to disable anonymous "karma voting" (or voting without any comment), so everyone could see who's voting on him, and ask a moderator if someone's lowering his stats without any good reason.

anon voting is off by default.

Theres lotsa cool stuff in it to stop abuse.
