Hi folks,

I hope that someone will be that kind & finds the time to pass a little help my way...

The problem is that some (most !) HL 2 mods I downloaded so far does NOT show up in
my Steam... Beleive me I DO know how to install/ extract them (...\Steam\SteamApps\sourcemods)
and I DO exatly read all the instructions regarding how to install the mods but still most of them
do NOT show up in Steam after I restart it.
Now: I was born in the 60's (LOL) so I am NOT part of the 'gaming generation' so I do not understand
much ( NOTHING, to be honest) from MODding, programming, etc. (PLS consider this in your answer).

I LOVE Half-Life so of course I would like to play some MODs but as I mentioned before, most of them
simply do NOT show up.

I have installed Steam-API v012, Steam-Packet-Versions 1377723241 & 13777241, Source SDK Base 2006 & 2007, HL, Half-Life 2,
Half-Life 2 - Episode One and Half-Life 2 - Episode Two.

As far as I understand these are the requirements to be able to install & play HL mods.

SO can anyone say, why are some mods showing up & some NOT showing up in steam???

Example: I played so far Awakening, Calamity, Gateways, Random Quest just to name a few.
Just installed rebelstory - does not show up, same with City 14, Mentality, Metastasis, Sity, The Island, Ravenholm, Ravenholm: The Lost Chapter
and so on...

My PC: Win7 Ultimate
4GB RAM
Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3100MHz
NO VideoCard

Thanks for reading this & Your help would be highly appreciated !

Could also someone try to explain THIS Behaviour??? Half Life 2 with Bug

Each mod can have their own requirements.

Have you tried searching for www.google.com/search?q=hl2+mods+not+showing+up+in+steam etc?

Looks like the mods that you have trouble with are older ones. Might be because HL2 has updated so much that you need to do something like what's described on the bottom here:

Make sure you restart steam after you unzip the mods into your sourcemods folder or else they wont show up on steam. That is a common problem.

It's been a while, so my info may be out of date, but sometimes a reboot of Source SDK does the trick.

Sometimes it's because HL2 has been updated to Source App instead of Half Life 2 App, and the older mods are all before this happened. So you have to go into the gameinfo.txt and change Steam App ID from 215 (Source) to 220 (Half Life 2). Or go bug the modder to make an updated release.

Hi guys, thanks for your answers!

Do U mean the gameinfo.txt of each and every game, or of Steam itself? In my Steam folder there is NO such file,
but in the Mods folders there's one. For instance the gameinfo.txt of "Anti-Citizen" says this:
"SteamAppId 420 // GCF for Episode 2
ToolsAppId 211 // Tools will load this (ie: source SDK caches) to get things like materials\debug, materials\editor, etc."
There's NO 215 nor 220, as you write in your reply !? And the "Anti-Citizen" MOD does NOT show up in Steam, so I can't play it :(

On the other hand, the gameinfo.txt of "Awakening" says this:

"SteamAppId 215 // This will mount all the GCFs we need (240=CS:S, 220=HL2). "
This MOD shows up in Steam & I also can play it, without changing 215 -> 220, as you suggest...

So just a theoretical question here:
If I would change the SteamAppId of "Anti-Citizen" from 420 to 215 then it would work???

UPDATE: I actually just did it, and violá "Anti-Citizen" shows up in Steam. BUT : If I try to run it an error message box (Engine Error)
appears saying: "Could not load library client." WTF?

unfortunately that is too tecchy for me, so I do not really understand what it says in that post... :(
But BIG thanks anyways!

UPDATE!

Just read this: Moddb.com
and downloaded the Anti-Citizen - Chapter 1 (Steampipe Update) (wtf is Steampipe anyways?)
same result as before: the gameinfo.txt still says SteamAppId 420 - if I don't change it it does not
appear in Stem, if I change it to 215 it appears but same error message box appears - game wont start. :(

PLEASANT UPDATE 8)

Just managed to enable Ravenholm on Steam, I'm already playing it :)))
All I have done is this:

Game |gameinfo_path|.
added by me Game sourcetest
Game hl2

The funny thing is to hear the MOD in czech language... fortunately I do speak czech so NO Problem :)

Well... actually I only managed to start the game but my Mouse is not working
(still works in all other mods!), so it is definitelly NOT a mouse-issue.

Does anyone have a clue for me?
