Non-Violent Game Concepts?? | Locked | |

Me and a co-worker were discussing game concepts (for fun, we are already working on something), and the conversation steered towards non-violent concepts. We tried to come up with one that would be fun to play, and we were actually stumped!! Does anyone have any non-violent concepts for games? Something that might be appropriate for children, but fun for teens and adults as well?? |

I guess it depends what you consider violence like sonic the hedgehog jumping on someone? or for completely nonviolent gameplay there is stuff like harvest moon. |

There is also stuff like Dear Ester (kinda an interactive story) dancing games, puzzle and many RPGS. Violence is mainly an easy tool for getting player attention, adding drama, tension and story. You don't need it but it can be useful at times, even the Sims has stuff like fires erupting in the house or fighting. |

Heck, there's even stuff like Orbiter and Kerbal Space Program, which are completely violence-free (wait...do you count wacky explosions and rockets going off like fireworks as violence?) space sims, a genre usually rife with gunfire and conflict. KSP even has a cartoon-like aesthetic and atmosphere (the minions from Despicable Me painted green and sending rockets to worlds with names like "Bop" and "Gilly", what's not to love?), but has a very accurate and challenging simulator underneath. -- I snark, therefore, I am.

It's not difficult to find game concepts without violence. Viva Pinata (and the aforementioned Harvest Moon) and similar games frequently lack any real violence. It's not hard really, the challenge just has to involve something other than killing things, of which there are tens of thousands of examples. |

Can you expand on what you mean by "violent"? Because I can say sports and racing games aren't violent because to me violence is an attack with blows of some kind but you may see that as violent in a way as in football, you are attacking the person with the ball. |

This is actually a very simple one to answer at-least for me. Look at games such as the Dis-assembly series from Noble Empire tons of non violent game play basically taking things apart such as weapons, cars, jets, etc. Give them a look over. Like others have said before -
Just as something to end on - Games do not have to be about violence they can be about exploration, inspiring awe and wonder. With that said check out this. It is a fully explore able model of the Star Trek Enterprise NCC-1701. You can even fly around it in a small shuttle. |
