Need Coder | Locked | |

I live in the SF Bay area, and have an idea that I believe to be the coming thing in gameplay. I lack the necessary coding skills to implement it. I can model, texture, or perform other design tasks, and have the software to do so. If anyone is interested, please respond. |

You can't attract a coder without an idea, and besides, most people hunt the coder down themselves (like me with Gargoyle Arena) -- < insert subject games here >

Indeed, my coder for Dh3 was VERY hard to obtain. You have to go out and find coders to do the work for you. And a coder wants to know what he/she will be doing other than just 'coding'. You're offer is quite simply awful. Do you know how many times I hear of 'teh next uber-l33t awsome idea' but nothing of the kind has actually been mentioned and the other part of it is is that you've not already started to do any of it yourself, and it makes me wonder if it was ever thought of in the first place, and this isn't just a waste of time. |

I knew it was gonna be crap when I read "Need Coder" I'm sure your idea is real nice, but share it with the world! No one is going to join a mod they know nothing about. |

maybe not, but we just might steal your idea!!! actually no we wont, cause w all have ideas of our own that we think are the b3st thing ev4r, so yeah, by sharing it, you might get some people interested. -- I want to make a mod like counter-strike but with more guns ,3 teams (maybe),and better gfx !!, |

I apologise for the lack of info. I will say it involves changing\adding to the standard FPS controls, and might be possible in the Half-Life engine, but I don't know. Again, I apologise for my inexperience, so cut back on the snot, please. |

I hope that isn't all there is to your mod... Sorry for acting the way we did, but we get stuff like this almost every day |

dont all engines support skeletal animations???? --

Nope. Q3A doesn't do skeletal, neither does the older incarnations of the Unreal engine. Vertex anims still live. Somewhere. -- < insert subject games here >

ohh so you have to like solve the animations your self --

Mar 18 2004 Anchor | |
I think they have to be solved by yourself anyway. Models doesn't automatically animate. |

well, if you dont broad cast your idea in a clearly defined manner, dont hope that people will be all up in arms to help you. I'm not saying this to be an asshole, hope this helps -- I want to make a mod like counter-strike but with more guns ,3 teams (maybe),and better gfx !!, |

I didnt say they automatically animate, im saying that bones solve your animations for you --

Do all animations have to be prewritten, or is it possible to map keyboard controls to various joints within the skeleton of the player model? |
||
Mar 18 2004 Anchor | ||
well, mapping keys to joints is certainly not possible in Half-Life. All the animations in HL are premade and told when to play. -- Lather.. Rinse.. Repeat.. Lather.. Rinse.. Repeat.. |
