GameDAILY Biz has published an article on music's increasingly important role in games. featuring award-winning composers Richard Jacques (Headhunter & Headhunter: Redemption) and Jack Wall (Myst III & Myst IV). Here's a preview:

"Music in video games have come a long, long way since the days of old when all that was emitted from your TV speakers were various bleeps and bloops. Today's music can be fully synthesized, performed by an orchestra, or in some cases be licensed music from some of the top rock bands around. While licensed music may be appropriate for some titles, most gamers would tell you that only original, well-crafted music can truly add to the experience that the developers are trying to provide."

music is very important for me, it creates the whole atmosphere in many games :) i couldn't play eg. MoH without it, the game would be dull and bland :/

also, some soundtracks are really cool as a normal music, like the UT techno thingie :)

music is damn important... just a shame many recent games still don't understand this. oh yeah... i hear people come with the Doom3 sound shaders... but to be honest... is this music/sound there that good? do you really have the impression something sounds muffled behind a wall or sound different in rooms of different sizes?

we've got music in games that is well but that alone doesn't help. there is more... EAX for example. i remeber the first game that came with EAX support and where it was used alike. i'm missing this. graphics are cranked up like hell, shaders languages develop like hell but sound/music? something new like EAX?
