hello,

my name is chris weber i'm new here cause i never installed a mod before until i found this great website, since this morning i play a lot of mods i found here with my favorite games unreal tournament 2004, doom3, farcry and of course half-life2/counter-strike source ... i play a lot of shooters cause it's the only good games that are still produced, i was always a big adventure fan, my favorites were kings quest, larry, monkey island, day of the tentacle ... but almost nobody produces good adventures anymore :( i'm 25 years old and i work with some artists in a little webdesign firm we own, we all play games and are 3d / 2d / artists and coders but we never did something like a mod, but we would like to start ... cause monkey island was our favorite game years ago we thought it would be great to make an 3d monkey island mod for half-life or farcry, depends on which engine suits best for our idea an it depends on which moders will join us, so as you see the idea is very young an there is still a lot to set up but we have time and want to start as soon as possible, we also could give some money to support the project, ok that it for now please contact me at info@youthmedia.lu if you want to join or simply reply here,

oh i forgot to tell that we can design textures, make drafts and concept art, we can create a 3D movie for the game and cut scenes, but what we do need most are people that already know how to create a mod, we need people that know the half-life source sdk or the far cry sdk, perhaps also unreal tournament but it's engine is kinda old compared to the others...

thx

chris

Stop with the freaking flamming.... Does it trun you on or something?

Finally! I almost died when they canceled S&M2 so it’s nice to see someone still thinks classic-style adventure games are fun and should still be produced. Good luck!

Lucasarts franchises in mods = bad idea.

I thought LucasArts was supposed to be one of the more friendly companies when it comes to licensed material. I saw something on G4TechTV where George Lucas said he doesn't mind people using the Star Wars franchise in their mods and he was actually encouraging it. He went on to say(somewhat joking) that if they are really good at making games, then they should come work for him.

Isn't there a free Monkey's Island scum engine?

Jan 29 2005 Anchor

I guess LucasArts embraces the mod community a lot more than I thought: Justadventure.com

Free open source SCUMM engine: Scummvm.org

I think this is a great idea for a mod. I'd help except I hate your choice of engines.

Oh, I think the mod has serious potential and it would not be terribily difficult to do. I don't think FarCry even has a map editor. Source requires you to add most things with models, which really slows down map making, and UT has that wierd "carve things out of a solid" mapping method. So, if this were based on some form of Q3 engine, I'd be interested. Ohterwise, I'd suggest UT2004 would work the best.

FarCry has a map editor, yes. It's called Sandbox if I recall. And yes, UT has a wierd mapping method (but is also highly useful and easy once you've become experienced with it).
