bbum	hi, Counter-strike has mods which save exp and lvl, plus Rocket arena 3 has various maps loaded onto one server. You could have alot of different maps hosted on a sigle server right? each map could act as a 'zone' of the level. How many maps could be hosted on one server? i dont know yet, im no coder either. How many people can join one server? ... is it possible to to have say 24 people on each map on a high connection server? those are some of the problems we'd run into it could be a fantasy based game... if you like the idea ill make us a website and forum

bbum	maybe a server wide character exp save is possible? if we can get up to 64 ppl max i think itd be worth a try btw, does anyone else see any problems we would run into? ground breaking stuff here It could be not a MMO but a server based RPG game like Never winter nights or diablo, or dungeon siege, they dont have many more people than that do they?

bbum	I seem to remember being able to play single player campain on HL multiplayer, just by moving the maps to the multiplayer folder, it even progressed through the maps, we could use that technology even... but how to allow some players to stay in one map while a few others wander off somewhere else

nooc	bbum, ive seen this discussion before, there are quite a few problems, the main one being servers(capability to run multiple maps) and persistance(ability to store player information securely externally). There are probably other issues, but these are the major ones, 1 fast computer will have trouble running 2 maps, let alone 10+ so you will need multiple servers running 24/7, if you have them, fantastic, if you're going to hire them, you better be rich. I had a concept of having one 24/7 server that kept player information that ever other server checked so anyone can start this mod server which checks players wonid(or whatever they will have) with the persistance server so they keep levels, gold, damage etc. now, main problems with this is security of this main persistance server and stability, if persistance server goes down, so does every other server. Also, only players and player locations would be persistant, not the worlds.
