Hey guys and girls.I would like to know some Indie metroidvania games, either commercial or freeware.
The games i played so far:
Cave Story + and Classic
Iji (I don't know if this is a metroidvania, but when i was looking for indie metroidvanias this game appeared on a random website about indie games. To me this game is a level based Action platformer with rpg elements, and this is why i played it.Very good though)
Hydra Labyrinth
and that's pretty much it.
And please,be gentle i'm new to IndieDB Forums
(Although i've been playing indie games since 2002.Lol)

How about the original (and best) Metroidvania game that inspired the term (MetroidVania) to be coined? Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. A PS1 game, but it is available to download on XBLA or if you already own the game then you can run it on an emulator for PC, but play using the traditional save system as the save anywhere feature emulators have ruins the challenge old console games provide.

Or the other original Metroidvania the also inspired the term (Metroidvania). METROID.

Well yes, Metroid is clearly partly responsible for the term, but it was Castlevania: SOTN that caused the term to be coined. Also, SOTN is far better than any Metroid :p

I played those a long time ago on the PC (Using emulators).
But what i need are other metroidvania games. If you find any metroidvania please name it here.

And yes,i'm addicted to this sub-genre. :D
EDIT:Thanks for reminding me of SOTN.Playing it again.Even though i played it 100 times. But still name more metroidvanias!

You should move on to a better genre- FPS/RPGs such as Deus Ex and System Shock 2. Loads of RPG elements, deep gameplay, deep story. They have everything.
I love SOTN for it's gameplay depth, and most importantly entertainment value, but the games mentioned above have far more and should suit your tastes perfectly, unless you only foolishly restrict yourself to playing 2D games or something :p

Of course there are always the Gameboy Advance or Nintendo DS Castlevania games if you are getting desperate. Also Shadow Complex, but it's RPG elements are weak.

What is your favourite Metroidvania game?

My favorite metroidvania is currently:Castlevania:Simphony of the night.
And i played all metroidvanias on the GBA and NDS
Castlevania:Aria of sorrow
Castlevania:Circle of the moon
Castlevania:Harmony of dissonance
Castlevania:Dawn of sorrow
Castlevania:Order of Ecclesia
Castlevania:Portrait of Ruin.
But i want MORE!

And i know about the Fps/Rpg genre. It's quite fun.
So far i've played:
All Deus Ex parts
System Shock 2
Fallout 3 and New Vegas
All S.T.A.L.K.E.R series (Soc,cs and cop)
Dead Island (now waiting for Riptide!)
The Elder Scrolls (Morrowind,Oblivion,Skyrim, although they are more Third person.)
Haven't tried shadow complex though.Gonna check it out.
But if you remember any more metroidvanias please name them here!!

Hey.Does anyone know when Starbound will be released?
And if anyone knows more metroidvanias please post them here!

I'm bumping this topic.Becaus i need more Metroidvanias.

P.S Just bought A Valley Without Wind 2,and it's awesome. You should try it.

Oh and i found a download link for Koumajou Densetsu on your google spreadsheet:
It can be downloaded from here:
So you might as well update with the download link.

kikok012: That download link is just for the patches. I found a download for Koumajou Densetsu II, but I'm 50/50 as to whether or not it's truly abandoned and should be free to download, or if there are still places to buy it legitimately. It's not that hard to find if you do a google search for the name.

I tried the first version of AVWW. I did not like it. Not one bit.
