What do you guys think about the idea of being able to re-enact battles / war missions that have recently happened? Husseins sons were only recently killed and already Kuma war lets you play through that very mission. I think it's a great idea, but at the same time I wonder if some people won't find it offensive. Re-enacting a war that happened decades ago is one thing, but this kind of technology has never been possible before, so I can't help but wonder if it's going to raise any issues. Opinions?

Anyways, these are the articles where I read about it;

Why do you think it's stupid? Elaborate.
Personally I think it's very cool and realistic as well as educational. I guess if it was a badly done game I can see why you would say it's stupid, but this game is very well done. I don't mean just visually either, although this game does look incredible;

Bleh, if I was Iraqi, I'd be offended. Also, if I was German or Japanese, I'd be offended by Medal Of Honour. The whole idea of having your ancestors, including people like your grandfather who fought bravely for their country, portrayed as villians is not only offensive, but also upsetting.

I'm not sure actually. All I know is that they have to develop new missions for you on a regular basis, based on real events. I don't know if the new missions are going to be sent out every week or every month, but it starts you out with four different missions.

For example, the first three missions I've played have been based on actual events in the Middle East that have only recently taken place: storming the area where Uday and Qusay were hiding out, searching for Osama Bin Laden up in the mountains of Afghanistan and now a mission based on insurgents trying to hijack a U.S. currency convoy. The next mission I'm going to play is about how the U.S. Stryker Brigade gets ambushed the day after Saddam Hussein was captured.

Other than that, I don't know anything about how the games are put together. Any information I have is from those articles I posted links to and the KUMA\WAR page: Kumawar.com

The engine is probably something proprietary.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it is. It would have to be when you think about it ~ how else would they be able to put out new missions on a weekly/monthly basis?

history is history.. if someone was bad then.. you can portray them bad now.. as long as it sticks to story.. even if it is a little biased.. you have to admit all nazis are, and forever will be-

I think that it's great that we are able to reenact history-changing events in our own homes. However, I think that the impact of what actually happened is lost to us as we shoot our way through the levels. When I play, I'm not killing Hussein's sons--theyre just npcs with new skins. Kumawar literally turns war into a game. Sure, I play war games all the time and enjoy blwing up Nazis or the VietCong, but I don't think I'd enjoy killing Hussein's sons myself. It's kinda sick when you think about it, because here you are, shooting up Iraqis while men die in Iraq at the very same time.

I think that for everyone there is a point at which playing first person shooters become "black" or morally unacceptable to people. This is quite often talked about by old school war gamers (hell yeah). It's different for everyone and a matter of personal opinion.
