I sent this to an admin 2 weeks ago, didn't get a reply and the mod is still there. I'll just quote the content of the message:

Hello,

I would like to report this particular mod for containing illegal stuff.

Moddb.com

It uses content from the original game, which is copyrighted by Lucasarts and the company has never given permission to use its assets in any mod, and it also uses mods made by other people without permission and/or a proper credit.

Here's a link to a post on external forum, the most popular one of the game (Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy)

Jkhub.org

In this post one of the head forum admins outlines particularly what the mod rips off.

If you require any further information I'll do my best to provide it.

P.S. KotF (Knights of the force) mod was banned years ago on ModDB, this case doesn't look much less severe in my opinion

I'd like to elaborate on that KotF comparison part - the reasons why I'm comparing EoC IV to a mod which was banned years ago over here, are below:

- both mods contain the assets provided with the original game (which is a direct breach of its license and a potential lawsuit risk from the owner of Star Wars franchise)

- both mods basically stole numerous of others' people content without not only asking them for permission, but even not crediting them and thus making it look like they were the creators (highlighted in the link to the jkhub forum, in the quoted part)

EoC IV, just as KotF years ago, is a disgrace to the community, I sincerely hope that someone responsible here decides to look into this. Regards

Every partial conversion mod (for any game) references, uses, re-uses or remakes assets from their respective, original game. Every single one. Only stand-alone releases/installers (not requiring the original game) are disallowed. How is this case different?

Those assets taken from other mods (outlined by eezstreet) are a major, critical issue however. What is developer's response to this? Does he admit what was taken?

Uhm ok I just verified it and indeed it's not functional without the original game, so might consider this point mostly invalid (because it still contains proprietary files that it shouldn't, and since it requires original files too, they're just duplicates). The latter part remains, however.

You're both from Poland so why not just talk in Polish, then maybe you can understand each other - LOL I'm just joking.

So do you have some history with the Knights of Force mod? Or is some of your work being used in the Evolution of Combat IV mod without your permission?

Those flags show only the current location you selected, not where you are from originally. It does not matter anyway.

Exactly, those files are completely redundant so it is mostly a practical issue, which means perhaps the dev does not know what he is doing, which in turn makes it more likely he ripped other devs' assets off rather than created them on his own. (Assuming those original files were not modified in any way.)

Either way, you need to give it a few more days, EoC IV dev's infringement is going to be investigated now.

@BrianRhineheart

No I just felt that it's unjust, no personal interests here. Decided to mention KotF just for reference, since the case is somewhat similar, although he doesn't try to sell it for money so perhaps it's not AS bad as KotF.

@feillyne

I sincerely doubt that he wasn't aware of what he's doing because as outlined in that jkhub post, it seems to credit some of the authors, while completely ignoring the others. As far as I know the authors of these included mods don't allow redistributing their work without explicit permission (I can verify that if needed, though), and there's no indication or any basis whatsoever to assume that it was given, they're free to contradict it, though.

Hi,

I am curious because this mod is back on the site what was resolved. Neither of the two mod's developers have contacted myself or my development partner @silverfang22 about using our content. Is it suffice to say that the content will be removed?

Hey,

I'm the manager of the ModDB page for EoCIV. Please could you let me know the content you believe is included in EoCIV that is yours? I'll try get hold of the developer and pass the message on for you.

Sorry to have caused any issues.

I have already outlined this in the JKHub thread. The assets from Jedi Knight Galaxies were included more or less wholesale.

Oh hey,

Didn't notice your username. I've been talking to a site admin and we've agreed to take the download for EoCIV down because I can't 100% confirm myself if there are stolen assets and although Serenity is insisting that there aren't any, he hasn't given me any proof.

Thanks for alerting me to the issue, sorry to have caused any problems.

I've laid out exactly where the files are, not to mention there are several directories that are named "jkg" filled with our assets.

Hi,

Like I say I'm not the developer of the core mod content, just the publicity and distribution. If that's the case though then I apologise that this wasn't corrected/removed earlier.

The download has now been taken off of ModDB.
