Idea for a horror game - your muzzle flash as the only light | Locked | |

I just got an idea, what would it be like to have a horror game where the only light in the whole game comes from your muzzle flash? Having a pitch black screen otherwise would probably be too boring, so I think the world would have to be rendered in a similar way as how we percieve the environment when it is dark - we still see some silhouettes, movement, etc. But it would all play on the environment being really scary, so that you really want to shoot from time to time to see what's in front of you - but what if what you shot doesn't run away but gets really pissed off? So yeah, what do you think of that idea? It's just a spontaneous thought, I have not tried to make it at all, but do you think it could - with some amount of tweaking - be fun? Has something similar been done before? |

Sounds pretty annoying. I like limited visual in Horror Games but being able to see for less than one second only when shooting doesn't sound like a good idea. |

The idea of limited vision isn't anything new to horror games which is essentially what the core Mechanic would be. As Mistergeorge also said I think this feature would be quite annoying as well as the fact that a muzzle flash only lasts a second if that making it utterly pointless to fire a gun for light. I also doubt that this mechanic would be particularly scary on its own either. |

(Sorry about necroing this thread after a year) I like this idea, but it needs to be modified. Instead of a gun, I'd use a flamethrower. Primary mouse button would fire the flamethrower. Both the pilot light and the ranged attack would use the same (limited) fuel source. Some enemies would be scared away by light, others would be attracted by it. Edited by: Fragvergnugen -- Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats. |

Would the muzzle flash be powered kinetically by your own movement in the game? |
