I am looking at starting a game company but need some ideas for a name and people to assist with game making, if you want in please message me

Sep 9 2014 Anchor

I think you might get better responses if you include a little more information, i.e. what kind of games you're hoping to make, what you bring to the table, etc. :)

Best of luck!

Based on text you wrote you are leaving an impression you have no clue what goes into raising a company and leading it.
Maybe you do, but this is what I get from your message.

If you are looking to start a company, and are still looking for a name and people to assist you with marketing on IndieDB (nothing wrong with that but...) you do not seem like a person who is capable of running a company.
Find another branch of interest.

ok well I now have a name, what are some good game making software, and I dont care if its the high end stuff I will learn them, or is Unity or Cry engine good to use??

Sep 15 2014 Anchor

You clearly have no idea. Honestly. If you are asking about what software is good to develop games, just stay away from running a bussiness, at least for now. Get some experiences at first, preferably with mod teams.

So far, you want to start a company, but you clearly have no idea or plan. That's the first thing you should do when starting a company. You should know your direction. And what software is good for use? It also depends on what kind of game you want to create.

"I am looking at starting a game company but need some ideas for a name and people to assist with game making, if you want in please message me"

Company name missing, bad start, people to assist? how can someone assist you if you do not give proper information and have yet to think out your company name, i could do this in only 60 seconds, Laus-network how hard was that? No one will message you, not to put you down or anything but your probably a child (14-15 years old) since you lack the knowledge to hand out information needed.

"ok well I now have a name, what are some good game making software, and I dont care if its the high end stuff I will learn them, or is Unity or Cry engine good to use??"

Google this, you can use unity or cry either one works, if you googled this it would have worked, many people have their own opinions on the different engines, that 1 question makes you not look to bright (i understand that sometimes there are more people on one side of software then the other but just pick one, unity is smexy to me so i picked it.

When posting looking to start a team it would be best to start out explaining the concept and the roles your looking to fill;

Company Name: [your company name]
Targeted Audience: [Adults] [Teenagers] ect.
Type of games: [RPG] [FPS] [Mixed: RPG, FPS]
Staff Positions:

  • Developer: [number of positions]
  • Artists: [number of positions]
  • Composers: [number of positions]
  • Web Developement team: [number of positions]

ect.

Small summary of the game: [summary]
Game engine: [unity]
Targeted System: [PC] [Xbox]
Paid: [Currently no payments will be avalible, once the game makes money staff can be paid]

Giving users the general idea about what your looking to do will help you get users to join your company, though it seems you lack the ability to own one, i suggest you just join an indie team as a story line maker or something, you dont possess the ability to run a company if you cant give simple information like this. So dont go and say that these intellegent people posting replies dont know what they are talking about nor do they have potential when you lack all the requirements, maybe you should let me run your company, i can only imagine how you will handle the buisness side of it if you cant even handle simple information..

But other then that, Good luck on your group (i refuse to call it a company even if im being harsh to you, its common sense like common man)

Laus, why did you quote me?
Your text is very confusing to me. Are you telling me I have no clue how to start a company? I have some, but not much yes. I am not trying to start a company.
My sentences are not properly structured because I was writing this around 5 am. Was just trying to help others.
Were you just trying to show me how bad my grammar was? Because, I wasn't thinking much at 5 am, and english is my second language. As a matter of fact. I wont even double check what I just wrote here.

What were you trying to communicate to me? All tho, I dont think that is the point of this thread :D .

Honestly. I think everyone who has something in his head will realize everything when they read first few replys.

And Reaper will hopefully understand that he is trying to do something that is outside of his capability.

Sorry tiger, i thought it was reaper who said it i didnt bother reading the name and went off on a little rant, my full response was titled towards reaper and him being unable to run a company, sorry again

Laus, priceless and spot-on. I instantly knew what the first post would be like and yours was worth the read.

Reaper, don't lose sight of your goal, but set small attainable goals for the next few years. Then, you'll know how the game industry is behind the scenes.

by the way in regards to you assuming my age I am 17 not 14-15........ and if you have nothing but bad shit to say please dont say it, I dont need the negativity

He gave you good advice, nothing less. Learn to use tools or bring something to the table, that's it.

Oct 13 2014 Anchor

I don't find that to be offensive. You should learn and read the information from the post. He is helping you to learn about game dev in general and what you need to start a company.
May i ask what is your inspiration when you want to start game dev. There must be a reason. I praise your boldness for starting out loud. We all started almost the same way. Good luck

Oct 13 2014 Anchor

Ok thanks WinAstella, my got inspiration from all the kinds of games I have played coz I grew up playing them and from as long as I can think back I have wanted to start a game dev company for ages, the one company that inspired me to want to make games was Bungie coz I loved Halo, and I am really good on computers and I learn fast so thought I might be able to apply to game developing

and sorry for spelling your name wrong WindAstella :/

Oct 13 2014 Anchor

so what kind of game you had in mind now? And what you will need to achieve that for now? I'm curious on what you're going to make.

I'm sorry that wasn't my intent, it was more to help you understand what should be required for a post, if you browse the board look for the post "Use proper format" posted by me to actually give the community some info about what your attempting to do :)

Now you're kind of getting somewhere, just remember that you need to expand completely on what your looking to do even if it isnt fully thought up give a small summary of it or someting you know you want to make then let the community know that its still something your looking into changing or adding. I'd love to give you a hand with ideas if it should ever arise.

Good advice? why thank ya :P

At that point and time i was more or less annoyed at the fact he gave nothing and expected the community to either guess or assume they could read minds, but i guess no one has posted something telling the people how to correctly post stuff here.

In reply to this I think that if you are starting a game company and think you can manage people completing work you should be able to post in a proper format and give info on items at the least.
