HL for HL2 Thread

I would think it would be cool if someone were to remake the original Half Life game on the HL2 game engine. Just remake tha story, maps, and models. Any takers/comments?

someone wanted to make that..i think in phl forums or somewhere else but they said its a bad idea and a waste of time because is just the same stuff with better graphics...same story and all :/

well, you could add weapons and what not, I dont know, Dark Forces mod is a success. Its just a remake.

HL2 has already proven a ton of backward compatibility with HL, though remaking HL as in copying the original BSP files could scream lawsuit, etc... it shouldn't be hard for Valve to make "Legacy HL support" for HL2... a sequel would mean totally new people to replace standard characters for the sequel though, as there are no Barneys deployed in City 17

Looks pretty good.

I like it but I don't look forward to it much, as some of the levels in DK I find very tedious (ESPECIALLY the sewage level! Man, there is no sewer I ever liked around here, TMNT2 (NES) being the only exception.)

anyway, i don't think any team would want to do this, it has to be valvE :/

id rather just play HL2 and the superb mods that its dragging along with it

Ummm, when the beta was leaked (well, stolen), I'm pretty sure they found an HL remake in there. So, basically, I think Valve already did that.

There's not a snowball's chance in hell Valve will sue them, but copying the BSP files is just a waste of time that no one will play. Something like the Metal Gear Solid GC remake would do nicely, redoing the levels and areas with all the new stuff HL2 can do will certainly kick ass. You can even expand upon the idea with Blue Shift, OFP, and more. Shit, with the Source engine you can play Gordon or Barney working at Black Mesa months before the incident. I wouldn't actually mind that.

oh Tundra_Cool is making that mod its called half-life classic for HL2 Moddb.com pretty cool, isnt it.

hl2 has a porting thing for regular hl1 mods

Just so you guys know, Valve is actually porting HL1 to the HL2 engine themselves. It's been proven in their statements and in the source code leak. However, how they will distribute it, when it is done and if they want it to go to the public, is still unknown. They may release it with HL2, or make it available to those who have a HL1 CD-Key (and maybe also for the HL expansion packs as well) across Steam.

Unknown? Obviously they'll want it through their Steam service

Copying other games, or remaking them is always a horrible idea, not to mention a troublesome idea as well.
