Can someone please tell me what the polygon limits on models will be for hl2 or where I could find that info? Thanks!

--EDIT--

I would need the info specifically for vehicles :)

The information won't be released until the SDK is released, so you know just as much as we do about that answer :P

If it's not Gabe Newell or Doug Lombardi, then it's questionable. heheh

Players are around 4000 polys-ish I bet, and "star" NPCs would be 8000-ish because of their ideal appearance to lipsync n' crap like that.

The source has the sdk and he said if your making state of the art mod and you want only people with top end pc's you could make the player models 8000.

ok.. so if u say average around 4k - 5k for the midrange pcs.. would that work?...if humans are 8k (top-end) what would or could vehicles have?. Coz we'll have a huge number of different vehicles in psycho hill... so I just want to make sure that we won't put the poly count too high :-\

Thanks for all the info up to this point guys :)

It's because the game can fluctuate, like the original Half-Life, to run on both low-end and high-end computers. The more polys you pour into your models, the better it looks, but you'd need higher specs to make sure it runs right.

Basically, every game should be like Half-Life 2, in respects to being able to work on both kinds of computers :)

I think u kinda hit the wrong quote :-P..

but yeah.. what about the vehicles? My vehicle modeller needs to know for the different vehicles (trucks, police cars, pick ups, etc.) he has to model.

no clue on cars but i would again stick to what type of mod do you want.

if all your models are high 7000 8000 polys you will be making your mod for high end pc's and the high end v/cards.
