The Google Labs people have done it once again:

Google Desktop

This thing pwns, I left it going all last night indexing my shit and this morning I can pick out near anything on my system from one search box.

Observe how it works:

Nothing personal goes to google - I've checked this via. the packet sniffers on my network and packet logs on the gateway - none of the queries I sent went any further than my own machine.

GD intercepts Google webpages when they get sent to your machine in order to do the combination searching pages.

I'm happy using it - enjoy the "OMG GOOGLE IS T3H UBAR BAD!!!" propaganda if you want, but as far as I'm concerned it's a useful product :D

If future versions send crap to Google so they can send me ads then I really don't care - I don't click any ads regardless of what they are nor do I care about some machine at Google going "ooh, this guy is talking about mass spectrometers! Give him an advert for mass spectrometers!".

Hey, when someone downloads it, can they post a screenshot of what it looks like? I'm debating whether or not to download it :)

its a very small download may aswell :/

It just builds up a search of wahts on yoru computer

and basicly when you want to search your computer you click the icon in the tas bar and it opens up an internal webpage (on your computer)

where it basicly looks like google.com and say you search "half-life"

it will bring back results of files and folders on your computer under the key words half-life
