Wat is Gmail, how do I get it, and what is so great? RADIATE

Aug 27 2004 Anchor

Im not sure but I think it mite be this I could be wrong Gmail.google.com

GMail = Google email. Gmail.google.com

It's got a lot of great features and is pretty fast. There have been some rumors about interest-specific advertisements that show according to email content, but I don't know how much of that is to be worried about. I like GMail, I like the setup and the mail search feature, it's just an improved version of the tried and true email system everyone else has.

I'm interested in knowing how they plan to manage POP3 access; it would be unprofitable if they are unable to show ads, so what will they do... append the ads to all emails accessed through POP3 automatically?

Google is about to go public, as in open for sharing on the stock market. They make millions of dollars in advertisements from their search engine, I don't think they're too worried about losing it with GMail. They surely have other means of income planned.

well... i would not think so. GMX for example used to place some small ads as the footer of their mail if send through their web page... fortunatly over SMPT it did not happen.

ads in mails? i would immediatly change... this kinda sux... you look like a honey-sheep on christmas with all the blicking ads on your back :lol:

Thats right now, now its an exclusive club. Will you still think the same thing when everythird person has it? Its like the .tk's they were cool at 1st but now everyone can get one for everyforum catagory on their site, its not that unique anymore. At least in my mind thats what will happen to gmail.

Thinking.......... thinking.......... yeah ill still like it :) . Their going to pay for it by scaning the email for keywords. Then at the right hand side of the screen their will be ads based on those words. Like what happens with a google search on the far right it show text ads realted to what you searched.

No... I'm pretty sure he means 0.9765625MB ;)

Its the evil "pretend 1000MB = 1GB" game, i.e. 1000 / 1024 = 0.9765625 :P

lol, silly logic there.

I don't know if I'll try Gmail. It's a lot easier just to throw in a Hotmail account when need be. I can handle just having one with my MSN account, because it's not like there's a lot of people anxious to flood my inbox.

No, that will be when my mod is released and people are sending hundreds of compliments. lol

up to now from the outer world you can fetch your mail from but you can not send yet. i'm still fighting with my ISP to get my port 25 back ;) . so far the server is fully accessible and working from the LAN. the second problem i struggle with is that for some reasons GMX threats my server as SPAM server O_o... and puts mails into SPAM folder. already wrote them but got no answer (smacktards).

yes... tell me what username you want and password (hence do it on PM) and i'll drop it in my LDAP.

EDIT: did some reading and pulled off a trick. i think you should now be able to relay through my server too... let's test this out ;)
