I want to get on the soapbox about something, and it's going to seem very strange coming from me.

This place is being overrun with stupidity and spam. Now don't get me wrong, I am a spammer myself. However I do it in moderation. I realize when the time to spam is appropiate and when something should be conitnued in discussion and the sillyness put on the back burner. Some people here do not.

This forum and entire site is generously hosted by :oktagone: and Greg. INtense spends hours tweaking and tinkering with her to keep things running at maximum capability, and all that we are asked in return is to treat the site with respect and courtesy. That happens 90% of the time. This last month since I've returned I have noticed a massive amount of nonsensical bullshit flooding this place, and there aren't even that many active members here!

A lot of people post random comments in threads that have nothing to do with it, do not progress the situation, and are blatantly useless. One word replies like smilies and the occasional "Huh?" are to be expected, but most everyone should work on their amount of words per post.

The solution? Stop spamming. Some threads are goofy, and that's perfectly cool, really. I will always be one of the first people to jump into a retarded conversation, but there is a difference between being funny and strange, and being a straight up useless spamm0r. Be the former, not the latter.

modDBv2.0 will be here sooner than we realize, and the new site needs to be given a new breath of fresh air, a new attitude. Let's build the quality of this forum up to the same high standards that the rest of the site carries. Do it for INtense, Greg, :oktagone:, and for modDB. You love her, I love her, we all love her. Maybe we should show some of that love, aye?

Mmk, that is all. I'm done.

the reason i left this place

i hope spam stops or is kept at a minimum level, everyone like to have some fun, but when whole forums are filled with trash, it's pointless

Sep 26 2003 Anchor

Well Godwin you have been here longer than I, and hopefully you'll be more motivated to post in the future, my friend.

Sep 26 2003 Anchor

I never spam :P

probably why my post count is so low............

Sep 26 2003 Anchor

I was gonna make this a one word post with a thumbup, then i figured that just be cheeky.. anyway..

I know your not naming any one, but i know who you would name

--

Nothing.

Sep 26 2003 Anchor

I had some names in my head whilst writing that, but I think you would be surprised to learn they were not any you would've guessed. I am not a name-caller. But regardless, this is a problem we are all aware of, and no one can fix it but us, the members.

A forum thrives off its community. We create its attitude, its atmosphere, and its problems. Thus, we are the only individuals who can turn things around.

If one of the names was me, PM me. I would like to know. seriosuly. at least then i could get my act together. Maybe you should do that. don't make it public. but PM them. that way they know. Then maybe they'll stop. If they don't, they risk getting an X next to there name. I don't want that.

Well there is a simple method for those who fear they may be who I'm referring to. Whenever you (not you DYE, just in general) make a post, read it over. A lot of people don't do this, because they are in far too much of a hurry to make that post and have the number under their name climb the ladder. It takes all of 3 seconds. If your post either doesn't make sense, isn't readable, or has nothing to do with the topic at hand, then change it or close the window. Easy enough, I know we're all smart people here. :)

a problem i have is when someone comes into a topic of your and spams it off topic.. :( something i thought could perhaps remedy this, is for the creator of the topic able to delete posts out of his topic, inorder to prevent such things from occuring.. and perhaps even ban someone from the topic if they continue to spam it.. :D

Sep 26 2003 Anchor

Well that's a good idea, however it's even better to have a Report Post to Moderator function, which I am pretty sure will be in version 2.

i like 40's idea more, because if every topic creator can delete other guys post well then some guys might delete other guys posts without reason :S

Yeah, it's not good for everyone to have control over their topics, that could get out of hand.
