This is my first model for DH3, and the first model i have ever pimped. Comment!

If you look at the mod profile or the website you'll understand why it needs to be this low poly.

ugh O_o i'll be honest: this is not the most beautiful model i have seen in my life...

EDIT: but good texturing may change this ugly state

What can be improved? Note this is my first real attempt at creating a model (i have done it before, but not really seriously)

Please note that there will be hundreds of enemies so to compensate for that we do need low poly models. The skin will add lots of detail though, i just really need opinions before i class it as finished.

*Edit* in answer to your edit, yes the skin will add most of the detail, as we don't want any slowdown in the huge battles.

Hmm deffently needs a bit of works. The handle and ammo clip look abit squarish don't you think? And maybe a bit to straight.

BTW, The limit ambershee gave me for the model was 400 polys, so i didn't have loads to work with.

Well the handle and ammo clip mainly, but also the top of the main body.

With a limit of 400 polys it will be very flat, but unfortunately with as many as 600 of those or similar on screen at one time they need to be.
Skinning will be fairly high-res, comparable to several other HL2 bits and pieces out there, so hopefully we can get something that looks quite a lot better.
In note to a) the handle, b) the clip and c) the body top, after looking at images of the said weapon, these are for any firearm, very flat anyway. The standard unmodified clip on an MP-7 is VERY squarish it must be said.
Personally, I'm still pondering the top detail, but studying images of the weapon itself do suggest that it's really like that when the scope is removed.
Still, the massed opinion is the massed opinion, and it may prove important to take what they say into account ;)!

man,
you have to critisize him for htat, its a first try but to say its horrible may be a bit harsh but its ture. It suxors very badly. Would you want to hold a gun tat was boxy and hurt your hands? and your mesh looks like hell even though there isn't a wire but the shadow can usually tell that th mesh is overlapping, like one vertex over anther, which then creates that black shadow. There is a ton of things you need to do. Like learn how to use the chamfer modifier, and etc. its good for a first try? am I correct in saying that. I had made modelslike that when I started, and look at me now

he made it low poly on purpose

Dec 18 2003 Anchor

I could make a model 1000 times better than that and it will be the same amount of polys maybe a bit higher

The gun looks perfectly fine, just could use a smoothing group for the handle and the side of the gun, and it's low poly, so what's your problem :|

And keep your ego out, he wants critisism, not taunts.

I should really post a picture of it from the side but i can't be bothered right now :P

Oh, and could anyone point me to any tutorials about chamfer modifying? (in Milkshape preferably)
