Vice City , but modding can be hard/limiting.

Farcry maybe as well. not sure on that

Torque, Q3A, and Serious. Quake1 sometimes as well.

horrible distance values.. using worldcraft you cant evwen make a map as big as the space given with no objects to block ur view without huge dissapearing.. (even in glbased engines..)

pisses me off.. ;(

FarCry is good at huge open area's, just play the demo.

hmm, he is asking which engine has got the best PERFORMANCE on open areas, not the best looking open areas O_o i wouldn't say far cry on this :P

Well it definitely ain't Halo ;)

ITS SLOW AND UGLY UGGH!

Farcry is pretty fast for a terrain engine as well as Torque.

yah, farcrys best for big stuff like that. im no mapper, but if you play the demo, its obvious.

Far Cry is efficient in it's use of extreme visual distances, most notably in it's excellent use of LOD ranges. I'd advise it as a great option for large open spaces on a next gen engine.

Quake 3 doesn't like large open spaces as much without fogging :(

i agree.. id still say farcry even to excuse its wonderful scenarios and gorgeous looks :)
