Activision confirmed today that id Software's DOOM 3 will be released this summer for the PC. The latest installment of the ultra popular first-person action franchise will utilize id's new 3D graphics engine to draw players into a frightening and gripping gaming experience concocted by John Carmack and the boys from Dallas. Keep your eye on GameSpy this week for a full blown preview of this promising shooter - straight from E3.

If what I highlighted there is correct, then you posted month-old news. Also, E3 2004 has come and gone already.

That was the initial story but it was followed up today with the retail stores updates. I didn't think you wanted to hear about Jim Buckneys opinion of why he knows it's shipping in July instead of August as it was opinionated and without any basis in fact.

They have NOT updated the screen shots but they have recently released fulfillment requests to the Best Buy stores in Massachusetts. The turn around listed there was for 45 days. The people I know got the inventory hold order and that NORMALLY (yeah I know...) means that they reserve space in the warehouse area for displays, advertising materiel and the product itself.

As far as I'm concerned, release dates these days mean nothing

Although, I guess I have one thing to thank the gaming industry for in that regard; I'm finding myself pleasantly surprised when things in the RealWorld™ come out at their expected release date... it just seems so foreign to me!

I think that's why id is just relaxing as they don't want to upset the masses. More people are taking the D3 delay a lot better than HL2. I think it's because most of us are and or have been more involved in HL mods in the present versus the Doom mods.

I'm probably wrong but I think that game delay (HL2) was probably the most stinging ever. Mainly because of the jerks who stole the code and the fact that the game which was bleeding edge now has to catch up to other companies who took their ideas and technology.

I mean even GTA San Andreas is using ragdoll physics. Cmon HL2. Hurry up! By the way, did anyone get the pewter figure for pre-ordering?

What friggin delay? Id set release estimates at April 2004 in 2003, then they set a more prominent release date at September 24 - that's all fair by me.

Like who? Ragdoll is certainly nothing new, and neither is much else when it comes down to it - games have incorporated some elements of ragdoll physics for years already

I think I've been pretty fair on that.

DIII looks to be a fair shooter, although probably not amazing. I know I've already ordered my copy, and I can't think that it won't be hitting the shelves in September either. It looks to be a sell out anyhow.

Based on your definitive statements which lean towards the facist left, if all of these technologies were common when HL2 was supposed to be released, what made it so desirable?

people were amazed by the ragdoll physics, striking AI, directx9 usage and realtime lighting along with environmental fog and water. all of these no longer are new and doom3 will probably have most of them if not all and more. although doom3 reall is more of a dark corridor to corridor game it seems :paeanoid:

My thought is that we should see more people excited about modding for D3 than for HL2 at this point. Maybe not so much more excited but at least prepared for the worst case scenario. I can find gloom in anything but I was just hoping to see one of these games this year and I think I won my bet when I said in 11/03 that it would be D3 before Fall.

yea, hitman was the first game with the ragdoll i can remember

nobody stole from hl2 really.. It uses technology which really has been around and used before. It just combines it all into a fun-to-play game, that makes ti appealing.. I'd say doom 3 more of uses the newer stuff.

And myself, i very much trust id's release time on doom 3. Id has never erally elt me down on things, i dont expect them to now either. I think they are smart enuff to give a time when they KNOW it will be out. And myself, i cant wait.. I think doom 3 is gonna blow most other games outta the water..

I think they've put a lot of thought and effort into this game. I know they've had plenty of time to perfect the ligthing which even in demo was spectacular.

I don't know how captivating the story will be but I bet I am going to be jumping everytime anything comes around a corner.

I'll be 995 yrs old when its released so you can get a discount I wont be able to.

The games that will make my day or life will be HalfLife 2, Doom 3, Stalker, F.E.A.R., Splinter Cell 3, MOH: PA, and Battlefield 2. I only worried about HL2's release date since they had problems in the past. So I guess first game to get marked of the list will be doom 3. That was NUMBER 1 before I saw the HL2 stuff.

Frankly I just want Quake 4 for now, I want HL2 of course but I want to see more news on Q4

all the q4 materuial is really outdated. that supposed new pic i saw 2 years ago on my friends wall as a poster. its THAT old.

So what Quake 4 is basically dead for now?
