There are so many 2D games being made, and played, nowadays that I don't think it's possible to list them. -- I snark, therefore, I am.

I think I play more 2D games than 3d. At least in the gameplay space. For instance I play a ton of SF4 which is 3d in graphics but ultimately 2d in gameplay. |

Most 2d gaming probably goes on with games found on things like Facebook and mobile devices, but there is evidently players of them based upon the many indie games developed here. I don't really play many games these days, whatever dimension, though interested in Project Zomboid, also enjoy Peggle. |

Yes. If you would like a good example of a 2D game that was successful and made recently with the RPG maker check out "To the Moon" -- Update: 2011-06-04 We are still in need of some extra people to join the team. The most urgent of which is an animator. We have created a new post recently with more up to date information on the project and what we have created so far: GamerKnight |

I'm playing 2D-Games from time to time, mostly fun-based-games like The Binding Of Isaac; the newer ones. No hardcore games like I Wanna Be The Ultimatum or anything like that (: |

What about La-Mulana? That is a great game! The New Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii U is just a 2d platform game made on a 3d Engine. And I still use the RPG Maker series as well. -- Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." |

Many mobile games are 2d For me it's easier to get 3d models than 2d... When I was making 2d games with html5, all I could find online were rpg maker sprite sheets. I took screenshots of some 3d models and made nice looking buildings but my attempts at animated 2d art were too time consuming and not great. Even now I'm struggling to make backgrounds that I like for a platformer game. I ended up making a forest in a 3d engine and taking pictures of models and isolating them in photoshop. Also with being a texture artist there's a whole specialty that's 2d based even in 3d games.... Edited by: shindig |

2D games will always have their own spot in the market for many reasons. Small studios that have new innovative ideas but can't afford the cost for 3D design, then they make the game in 2D. Another thing is that some games are great because they are in 2D, you can find tons of examples for that. In short, if a game is good, then the players will love it no mater in which dimension it is. |
