~Dilemma!~ (Server Suggestions) Thread

Okay, As you can see in the Thread "Lukkeh Me!" I recently found and recieved some older computer parts. Enough to build a "new" 386 and 486. I plan to run a server on the 486, but i want everyones oppinion of what to start.

Yes 40, i know you want an irc server, and i deeply am considering it

Use Windows98SE or NT4.0

id say 98SE for games and NT for anything else. unless NT isn't surpported.
id also say Qauke

486 game server, 386 irc server.

lol, ok use the 486 for hl and the 386 for irc...but why do you want an irc server when there is already #moddb?

you can do alot with your own irc server :o
but getting people to come to it is a bitch

but what is he going to do with the irc server?

be god, get people fro all around to come in it would be fun.. but alot of work to manage

i just un-installed Hal-life for Toca Race Driver and Deus Ex
half-life could be an option if it was for Counter-Stirke though
Quake is still on though

I agree on the 486=game 386=irc but i still am undecided. A lot of ppl seem to want HL and an equal amount want Quake. I need to just do a poll.

EDIT: Whats stopping a "Server of the week" ? We could vote on what game/mod to do, and id switch it each week.

have all the games you mentioned above, apart from Red Faction.
i only have Counter-Stirke 1.5

but i would leave it up to the others
CS or Qauke

i think a SOTW would be sweet

year a SOTW "server of the week" would be a good idea
that way quake then CS then sof1 and so on

irc is what it stands for, you use clients such as mirc to connect to irc servers (made by the public/companys etc..)

Dr_zoidy here might make an irc server for us to connect to and make channels in etc ...

and the widly used gaming irc server is

irc.gamesnet.net where most modders host there mod channel on
