Well, after playing CS Source, i can say that the graphs are not bad, and i am impressed by some of the features, but when i look at how long it's taken them to come up with the source engine (HL2 engine) i am very dissapointed. Maybe its just CS:S, but Doom 3 shits all over the Source engine, in every aspect.

And, to top it all off, the beta release of CS Source has so many bugs in it, its not funny.

That is what happens when i rejoin a server, or after a map rotation.

My personal opinion? Valve is using the CS Source beta release to find out bugs not just with CS:S, but HL2's engine aswell.

I hope Valve prove me wrong, and release a good quality release of HL2 that doesnt require 50 updates in the next year or so, because this would seriously ruin the legacy of HL, but on the up side it would increase the number of people using different engines to mod with, i.e. Doom3, UT2k4 etc :)

shows once more that HL2 will be the biggest disappointment in history... just after deus-ex 2... *urks*

Aug 21 2004 Anchor

Well, it is the first game released with the Source engine, so it could only be logic to see what VALVe can patch up before the game goes gold. Although, it has been rumored that HL2 will be released in a few weeks, so let's keep our hopes up, shall we :)

I myself had a fun time with CSS. I liked how the flashbang burned an image on your computer and made it take a few seconds for it to fade away, and how realistic the frag grenade and smoke grenade performed after they blew up. CSS was just released, and it's just Beta 1.0, so it still has a little while to go. But, they have confirmed all of these bugs and are working on them around the clock. The next phase should clear up a lot of the issues people are facing.

these are not just bugs but heavy coding errors. letter-textures are only looking like that if somebody did NOT check the underlaying hardware and just enforced his crap... from a real world company i expect more than this lari-fari thing...

Aug 21 2004 Anchor

Proof that CSS looks fine. Maybe you got a bad version or something, Greg :|

like i said... this error is mostly due to different hardware. looks like for greg's hw they didn't do the right checkups whereas yours does work.

Aug 21 2004 Anchor

Oh, I just thought you meant the CS team screwed up or something. I expect them to do a lot of check-ups to be ready for their retail release/HL2 joint release.

i guess the cs team has not much to say about the problems of the underlayout source engine. this is up to engine devers to put that right.

Why do you judge HL2 on a stupid game like CS: S. Very judgemental don't you think.

He doesn't judge HL2 itself, he judges the engine it works on - at least that's how I understand it.

Yeh, doesn't mean Source will suck. It matters in all about coding.

Steam can only get better and more user-friendly. Don't start up a bitching thread, please.

More than likely, if valve had a copy of ZoneAlert, I'd be buying HL2 tomorrow for Xbox and we'd all be fused to our lovely computer chairs, with bloodshot eyes, dried mouths and starved bodies....such is the predicted rapture for Half-Life 2. But, spector is right. It's a beta. Beta testing= getting the bugs out, while people can play. It's a great formula. Don't gripe just because "OMG THIZ LIEK SUX THE GAEM IZ ALL MEZZED UP!" the game is not messed up, the engine needs patches, and you can all play a wonderful (albeit buggy, but getting fixed) game. Enjoy.

Hey, it shows how much "5 years" of effort valve's done with the engine. It's finally got up to par with SOF2 (Q3A), but with rolling stuff. :|

OMG, no one knew that? Yeh I was going crazy with people bitching, CS: S has too many bugs, so it sucks. God, they don't deserved to be beta tester if they don't even help valve with what bugs they got. lol what a stupid world. CS: S was in production in the beginning of last year. HL2 was in production 5 years ago. That shows HL2 has more bug fixes than CS: S. So stop bitching how valve suck. I don't see you making one of the best games of all time.

The topic is the engine.

CS:S is a mod for hl2 so it shares the basis :|

i've got nothing against beta testing, open source apps are usually 75% alpha and 25% beta... but there apps are beta if they are already patched and declared stable by so called companies. i would not hesitate to use an alpha or beta work under linux but this engine would be bloddy alpha under OS terms... lol. a beta is usually for a closed circle of persons because:

1) this way you can get better feedback, have people that really iron out bugs
2) you don't digruntle the casual gamer as he sees the bugs NOT the beta
3) it makes you look silly and like you just release shit for beeing in the news
