Hey all. I'm a novelist and serial fiction podcaster, and I'd like to get into the game dev industry as a writer. It's something I looked into a long time ago, and I vaguely recall the advice at the time was to build a bit of a portfolio with mods to show you understand the nature of storytelling in an interactive medium. At the time, I believe that Neverwinter Nights was heralded as the "go to" modding project. What's the best practice today? Skyrim? Fallout? Shadowrun Returns? I'm looking to show off my chops in as wide a range as I can, so any and all suggestions and advice are welcome. Thanks. |

Well, roam around, till you find a game and project you really like, and then apply. As simple as that. Obviously the newer the game is, the more community support it will likely have, so pick wisely. Maybe find a few your tracking, and always liked, and reach out to to see if they need a writer of your skills. Being a writer in this field allows you to be almost the freest creative type, since you can go and try any project with minimal investment, where artists, programmers, audio composers are bound by the tech used, your free to dabble anywhere you like. Yeap, there's always lack of good writers. Every indie rpg/interactive fiction/other kinds of story-based games need people like you. You can create a blog or just simple site with examples of your writings and just search for colleagues across the internet. You will succeed for sure. Good luck. |
