Black Mesa Online Thread

Hey guys. I was thinking of making a MMO sort of game based on Half-Life. You can choose up to 2 teams: Resistance and Combine. Each side has its unique weapons such as:
Resistance---Crowbar
Combine------Stun Baton
Stuff like that. The maps will be big obviously and I need very experienced mappers for that. If anybody is interested, you may post here or email me at kfumstr2000@yahoo.com.

Actually this idea could be neat. you could truely map out the entire black mesa facility and even places outside and have like city 17 and stuff that you can travle to. The only thing is... if you plan to use the hl2 engine to do this it prolly ont work out well. Coding for a game like this would be a bitch. However if you take another engine that might be more suitable for this type of game then it might turn out quite nicely. I always thought it would be fun to have a first person mmo where you can pick up different level guns and use them in first person.

the half life engine isnt able to do an MMO without the source open'd up.
or so i beleive.

Blinks: Thats what I was planning. Itll have the Black Mesa Facility for sure and maybe City 17, though Im not sure what to do to travel there. Im also wondering if I should include the Combine's Strider... That would be a bit cheapm but then again we could use the boat and the car things and boost up their weapon power...you interested in helping?

try quake2, maybe. quake 3 when it comes out

That an engine? >< not very familiar with engines. Darkcyde, you interested in joining the team?

There is a MMO game coming out on Source.
You just need some expirienced coders to change the engine a bit. And make models that are far from HL2 quality or else you'll get lag because of the details of the map..

i doubt this will work as source is build for fps, not MMO. it will crumble to dust ^_^

Valve is already adding the stun baton to HLDM. All you have to do now is just switch your character model and that's basically what you're trying to accomplish.

Yes, its going to be a MMOFPS. Will, is planned to be. Anybody interested in helping out?

Or even being able to make it.Rofflecakes.

You're better off just trying to make a Battlefield mod.

Cyanide, I wont care if not alot of people play it. If I do make it, I will be very satisfied. I dont see why I cant make it.

First of all, read the posts and find out who said you won't find players.

Second, I wasn't saying you weren't going to make it, I was saying you can't make it.It's physically impossible.

No, the fact is that you CAN NOT make MMO's on most conventional FPS engines. That's what we're trying to say.
